    Scope of Job

    We seek applicants who are dedicated to servingThe University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’sstudent body as a tenured/tenure-track position (Assistant or Associate rank) in the area of Clinical Psychology. beginning in the 2026-2027 academic year. We are interested in experts in any area of clinical psychology, including neuropsychology. The department offers a PhD program in clinical psychology that uses a scientist-practitioner model, an MA program in clinical and experimental psychology, and major in psychology. The department trains students at its Psychology Clinic, which offers both in-house clinical practicum training and research space for students and faculty.

     

    The candidate will be a core faculty member in the clinical Ph.D. program which has been granted accreditation on contingency by the American Psychological Association. The successful candidate will also be expected to maintain an active program of research, seek extramural research funding, teach graduate level courses in the PhD program (https://www.utrgv.edu/cla/academic-programs/clinical-pyschology-phd-program/index.htm) mentor graduate students in the PhD program in clinical psychology, and serve as a clinical supervisor to students.

    Department/College Background:

    The Clinical Psychology PhD program is housed under the Department of Psychological Science in the College of Liberal Arts. At the undergraduate level, the UTRGV Department of Psychological Science offers a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Psychology. At the graduate level, we offer a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Clinical Psychology, a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Experimental Psychology, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Clinical Psychology.

     

    The College of Liberal Arts is the university’s largest college. We are proud to serve nearly 7,000 students with the support of more than 300 full-time faculty members across 12 departments. With over 50 undergraduate and graduate degree programs, the College of Liberal Arts is a vibrant community where students and faculty collaborate to reach new levels of excellence in teaching, research, and professional innovation.

    Minimum Qualifications

    -Assistant Professor: Applicants must have an earned doctorate in psychology from an APA -accredited doctoral program. ABDs will be considered but applicant must have an earned doctorate in psychology by August 31, 2026. Applicants must present evidence of active research that includes publications in peer-reviewed journals; potential to effectively teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels; potential to supervise and mentor clinical and research activities of students; potential to maintain active programmatic research, and potential to obtain external grant funding.

     

    Candidates for a tenured appointment must be currently tenured at their current institution.

     

    To be eligible for the rank of Associate : Beyond the above requirements, requirements include a demonstrated ability to independently conduct programmatic research activities that meet the departmental and institutional requirements for the rank of associate professor; and a high degree of teaching proficiency and commitment to professional service.

     

    Applicants must be licensed or licensed eligible in Texas.

    Discipline Specific Required Qualifications

    Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from an APA -accredited doctoral program (or be ABD with the expectation of holding a doctorate before the position start date) and APA -accredited predoctoral internship.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Experience teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level. Experience as a faculty member in an APA -accredited doctoral program in clinical psychology. Experience supervising graduate level research. Experience obtaining grant funding. Research with Hispanic/Latino populations. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

    UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program ( ORP ) instead of TRS , subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
