    Job Description

    The Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing (DIAL) is seeking temporary employees to join our regulatory department and serve as licensing specialists within our Professional Licensing Division at our central office near Valley Junction in Des Moines, Iowa.

    DIAL is a multifaceted regulatory agency charged with protecting the health, safety, and well-being of Iowans, and is comprised of eight core operational divisions: Administrative Hearings, Building & Construction, Health & Safety, Investigations, Labor/OSHA, Licensing, Workers’ Compensation, and Administration.

     

    This position will be located at 6200 Park Avenue in Des Moines.

    • Flexibility is essential, as you may be required to support multiple licensing boards as needed.

     

    What You’ll Do. As a member of the Application and Renewal Bureau, you will:

     

    • Communicate with applicants by phone, email, and written correspondence to provide guidance on licensure requirements.

    • Review licensure applications to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with administrative rules.

    • Enter and maintain records in electronic licensing systems and databases.

    • Process licensure fees, issue licenses and certificates, and handle confidential documentation.

    • Advise applicants on procedures, identify errors or missing information, and draft correspondence as needed.

    • Respond to a high volume of inquiries from individuals, schools, and businesses regarding licensure, relocation, or continuing education requirements.

    • Provide assistance with license verification, public records requests, and board meetings when requested.

    • Collaborate with team members and other staff to support smooth licensing operations.

    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualification Requirements

    Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

    1) Two years of full-time work experience in general office, clerical, data entry/processing, or related work.

     

    2) A total of two years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.

     

    3) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes six months of fulltime work as an Administrative Support Assistant 2 or eighteen months of full-time work as an Administrative Support Assistant 1.

     

    Notes Within a period of time after hire, as determined by the appointing authority, employees in this class may be required to type at least 40 WPM net as demonstrated by the completion of a typing examination.
