    The Boston University (BU) LGBTQIA+ Center for Faculty & Staff (the Center) seeks an Assistant Director, in the first center of its kind. This role serves as a resource for all members of the BU community and works collaboratively with the Center team to support the mission and function of the Center. The Assistant Director provides extensive programming, outreach, and education on campus; oversees communication and marketing; assists with administration and operation of the Center; provides support and referrals for community members who access the Center space and services; supervises student employees and volunteers; and helps maintain the Center's physical space.

     

    Previous professional experience with gender and sexuality through an intersectional lens is essential for this role. The largest portion of the job is the responsibility for all aspects of the Center's robust and comprehensive programming (i.e., from development through implementation) and oversight of social media and marketing for the Center. The Assistant Director serves in several roles beyond just program coordination and communications and shares in responsibility for administrative support tasks in conjunction with the Senior Program Administrator. The Center is housed under the Office of the President and the Assistant Director reports to the Director of the Center. This is a full-time administrative professional position. The salary range is $72,000 to $82,700 and is commensurate with experience.

    Required Skills

    Essential Qualifications:

    + Bachelor's Degree with at least 3-5 years of related professional experience in higher education or a related field.

    + Extensive knowledge about sexual orientation and gender identity and professional experience in addressing issues of concern related to LGBTQIA+ communities and multiple intersecting identities.

    + Demonstrated ability and strong interpersonal skills to work in a center with individuals and groups with a wide array of backgrounds, identities, life experiences and communication styles.

    + Experience with social media and marketing (e.g., graphic design, branding, content creation, and marketing or visibility campaigns) and ability to utilize current technology and attend to website updates and issues as needed.

    + Excellent communication skills to express ideas clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.

    + Strong group facilitation skills.

    + Ability to take initiative, problem solve, and work independently and transparently with good judgment about when to seek direction.

    + Ability to recognize and protect confidential information and exercise discretion, tact, and diplomacy in handling sensitive information and situations.

    + Ability to juggle many different projects simultaneously, with consistent accuracy, follow-through, and timely completion of projects.

    + Skill to concentrate in a busy office environment and to pay close attention to detail and prioritize workload with frequent interruptions.

    + Ability to work as a contributing member in a team-oriented environment with an understanding of the larger unit and university contexts. This includes being part of an office team as well as collaborating with colleagues and non-university partners.

    + Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams and experience working in graphic design software and marketing platforms.

    + Ability to consistently work some evenings and weekends for programming outside of regular business hours, which are Monday Friday, 9 am 5 pm

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Master's degree in student affairs and higher education administration, communications, social work, counseling, WGS, or another related field and 5-7 years of progressive professional experience.

    + Experience working with both faculty and staff in a university setting.

    + Experience working in belonging and inclusion in a higher education setting.

    + Awareness of higher education best and promising practices related to this role.

    + Experience leading training about gender and sexuality topics.

    + Experience with creative educational program development, including program planning, implementation, and assessment.

    + Familiarity with Boston/Massachusetts community-serving organizations and groups

    + Experience supervising students and/or professional staff.
