Distribution Designer
Job Description
As a Distribution Designer, you will acquire and apply a working knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), national engineering standards, utility construction standards, and best industry engineering practices. You will gain broad knowledge across engineering disciplines, focusing on design, constructability, and economic considerations in construction methods and materials. You will maintain the production and quality of projects, including field data collection, photography, engineering analysis, and management of reports and databases.
Responsibilities
+ Prepare and modify electrical and roadway drawings, specifications, calculations, charts, graphs, and construction drawing packages.
+ Perform various field technical services for the operation, inspection, and maintenance of electrical distribution systems, including system inventories and audits, joint use management and permitting, pad-mount inspections, ground-line pole inspections, metering and apparatus services, and lighting audits.
+ Collect field data using laptops, tablets, GPS, and other electronic devices for database input.
+ Develop knowledge of telephone, cable, and other communication facilities.
+ Operate equipment to measure utility poles and mid-span facilities, conduct pole inspections, and maintain pad-mount equipment.
+ Present ideas effectively in both formal and informal settings, communicate well in writing, and adhere to proper email and telephone communication ethics.
+ Keep supervisors and coworkers informed, sharing complete and accurate information with all levels of the organization and external clients and agencies.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency in AutoCAD for detailed design of overhead and/or underground electric distribution systems.
+ Analytical competence to interact with engineers and experienced distribution system designers.
+ Thorough knowledge of technical practices and procedures in areas such as Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation and Control, Protective Relaying, Transmission Design, Substation Design, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Distribution Engineering, Surveying, GIS and Mapping, CADD, Drafting, GIS.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Associate's Degree in AutoCAD or Engineering Technology.
+ Familiarity with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) is preferred.
+ Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications is desired.
+ Experience with AutoCAD or similar programs is preferred.
+ Proficient use of engineering software is preferred.
+ Clear and valid driver's license is required.
+ Willingness to travel overnight to surrounding utility territories is expected.
Work Environment
The position offers an in-office environment with the opportunity for flexible hours once trained. There is also the potential to work two days from home each week, contingent on training completion and management approval. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $26.00/hr.
