Job Title: PhlebotomistJob Description

The primary role of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various duties such as troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures while ensuring patient information is accurately updated.

Responsibilities

+ Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens.

+ Record maintenance data and perform decontamination.

+ Update patient information and collect/store specimens according to procedures.

+ Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously.

+ Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

+ Understand and follow all physicians' orders.

+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.

+ Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.

+ Package specimens for transport and store sample specimens at required temperatures.

Essential Skills

+ Experience in specimen collection, venipuncture, and blood draw.

+ Hard stick experience, especially with transplant and cancer patients.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, if required.

+ High School Diploma or GED.

+ 1-4 years of experience in a similar role.

Work Environment

The phlebotomist will work in a hospital lab setting, collaborating with a team of phlebotomists. The role requires handling hard stick patients from pediatric to geriatric age groups, including those who have had transplants and cancer treatments. The working hours are from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Washington, District of Columbia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
