Research Scientist – Sustainable and ResilientPower System

Do you know how to model, control and optimize power
systems and want to work in applied research? Then join our research group in
Princeton, NJ! As part of our Autonomous
Systems and Control team you will participate in projects on energy automation,
power generation, renewables integration, energy market and many more. In these
exciting and challenging projects, you will help to drive sustainability and
resiliency of smart grids.
In this role you will work onsite in ourPrinceton, NJ office.
Key responsibilities:
+ Develop dynamic power system simulationmodels for sustainable and resilient power systems with high integration ofrenewable generation resources
+ Develop detailed EMT models for variouspower system components and configurations, including HVDC, FACTS, renewableenergy plants (wind, solar), and conventional generation.
+ Perform comprehensive power systemstability analyses, including rotor angle stability, voltage stability,frequency stability, and small-signal stability particularly with highpenetration of inverter-based resources
+ Utilize industry-standard software suchas PSS/E, PSLF, PowerFactory, TSAT, and/or DSA Tools for dynamic simulationsand control design
+ Implement advanced control andoptimization concepts in feasibility studies, technical specifications,prototypes, and integrate them into larger systems and product components.
+ Test and validate power system models andcontrol functions in laboratory and field tests.
+ Work with Siemens’ business units tounderstand customer requirements and deliver solutions.
+ Protect the results of your work throughpatent applications and publish results at conferences or in top journals.
Basic Qualifications:
+ Master’s Degree in Engineering or similardegree from an accredited university with strong focus on modeling, control andoptimization for inverter-dominated power systems
+ Domain knowledge in power grid modeling anddynamic control
+ Expertise in microgrid design and operation
+ 3 years advanced knowledge in modelling andsimulation of power systems with high integration of inverter-based resourceslike detailed dynamic modelling and simulation (RMS/EMT)
+ In-depth knowledge of control for powerinverters and power generation
+ Experience with software tools for power systemmodeling and simulation such as MATLAB/Simulink, PSCAD, OpenDSS, PSS®E, etc.
+ Hardware-in-the-loop testing and real-timesimulator like OPAL-RT.
+ Proficiency in English, both written andverbal.
+ Legally authorized to work in the United Stateswithout sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Qualification:
+ PhDin Engineering or related fields with a focus on power system.
+ PriorR&D experience in industry or national labs.
+ Profound expertise in EMT software: PSCAD,EMTP-RV, and/or ATP-EMTP
+ Solid knowledge of power system stabilityconcepts (transient, small-signal, voltage, frequency)
+ Familiarity with relevant industry standardsand grid codes pertaining to grid stability and control
+ Experience with programming languages such asPython, MATLAB, or C++ for automation, custom model development, and advancedanalysis.
+ Publications in relevant journals orconferences showcasing expertise in power system dynamics and control.
+ Real world problem solving and a hands-on,can-do mentality.
