    UPMC Hamot is looking for a Patient Care Technician to join the Float Pool!

    This position is full-time with rotating shifts, weekends coverage required.

     

    _Title and salary will be determined based upon education and experience._

    Responsibilities:

    + Assist with patient procedures and daily living activities (ADLs).

    + Support physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.

    + Report patient status changes and provide feedback to RN.

    + Perform core nursing assistant tasks: blood glucose, weights, vital signs, intake/output, specimen collection, Foley care.

    + Competent in at least four advanced tasks: phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, simple dressing, Foley removal, point-of-care testing, bladder scan, straight catheter, IV removal.

    + Report equipment malfunctions and communicate effectively with departments.

    + Maintain respectful, professional relationships and respond to unit needs (call lights, phones, meal trays, patient transport).

    + Accept feedback, identify learning needs, and seek help with planning/prioritizing.

    + Educate patients/families under RN direction; apply/remove restraints per protocol.

    + Communicate clearly with healthcare team; understand cultural diversity and workplace safety.

    + Demonstrate accountability, motivation, and commitment to patients and colleagues.

    + Follow all patient care and hospital policies, including safety and standard precautions.

    + Support departmental changes, projects, and quality initiatives.

    + Document care accurately; complete clerical tasks as needed.

    + Routinely perform core tasks including telemetry application, safety indicators, and hospital-acquired condition monitoring.

    + Limited access to medications-only distributes to nurse.

    + Maintain competency in at least one advanced skill: phlebotomy, IV/Foley removal, basic arrhythmia, 12-lead EKG, NG tube clamping/removal.

    + High school diploma or GED required.

    + Must meet one of the following experience or education criteria:

    + 1 year of general healthcare experience.

    + 6 months as UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency achieved within 120 days of hire/transfer/promotion (if less than 1 year experience).

    + Enrollment in PT/OT/PA or related healthcare training program with at least one clinical rotation completed.

    + Completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.

    + Successful completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician class.

    + Successful completion of eRecord training.

    + EMT or Paramedic certification preferred, or current enrollment in an EMT/Paramedic program.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    + Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within one year of hire or transfer.

    + Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

    + NIH Stroke Scale (NIH) within 6 months of hire or transfer.
