    SUMMARY OF POSITION:

    The Genetic Counselor is responsible for providing comprehensive genetic counseling services to patients referred to Penn State Health - Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Responsibilities include reviewing family histories, identifying genetic and environmental risk factors, explaining the risks, benefits, and limitations of genetic testing, coordinating clinical and/or research-based testing, disclosing test results, and discussing strategies to manage identified risks. The primary focus of this role will be the Hematology/Oncology service line. However, candidates should also be prepared to provide coverage for General Genetics as needed, depending on clinical volume and departmental needs.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

    + Graduation from a Master's level program in genetics accredited by the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling (ACGC).

    + Board certified or Board eligible with certification obtained within one year.

    + Commonwealth of PA genetic counseling license or provisional license prior to the start of employment.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):

    + Interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence and self-awareness preferred.

    + Research skills / self-education preferred.
