Director of External Communications: Hybrid Role

What You’ll Be DoingAs the Director of External Communications, you will report to the Chief Administrative Officer and work closely with senior leadership and the internal communications and engagement lead. You’ll lead the strategic direction and day-to-day execution of WellLife Network’s external communications, branding, and public relations. You’ll be a key driver in elevating WellLife’s visibility, amplifying impact stories, and ensuring our voice resonates across platforms.
Your Core Responsibilities
Communications & Outreach• Lead media relations strategy, serve as spokesperson, and manage crisis communications when needed.• Write and distribute press releases, media kits, and official statements.• Build strong relationships with journalists, media outlets, producers, social influencers and community partners to increase visibility and coverage opportunities.• Position WellLife as a leader in behavioral health, disabilities services, and community-based care by securing positive media coverage across local and national platforms, including television, radio, print, podcasts, and digital news.• Develop and distribute compelling media pitches that highlight organizational impact, client success stories, and innovative programs.• Identify and submit nominations for industry awards that recognize excellence in service, leadership, and innovation.• Promote WellLife’s executive leadership as thought leaders through op-eds, interviews, and expert panel opportunities.
Brand Leadership• Assist with development and implementation of the annual marketing strategy aligned with WellLife’s mission and programs.• Ensure brand consistency across all public-facing materials, campaigns, and channels.• Partner with program teams to support external initiatives and create engaging external print and digital assets.
Digital Engagement & Content• Oversee website content, SEO, social media strategy, and email marketing campaigns.• Monitor analytics to improve engagement and optimize performance.• Lead development of video, photo, and written content that highlights real client stories and community impact.
Community & Stakeholder Relations• Assist with media relations of external events and representation at WellLife at events, conferences, and external meetings to grow visibility and support (e.g. ribbon cutting, breaking ground, community events).• Collaborate with fundraising and development teams to craft donor-facing communications.• Cultivate partnerships with aligned nonprofits, agencies, and government contacts.
Leadership & Team Oversight• Manage related budget, timelines, and deliverables.• Maintain compliance with brand, accessibility, and privacy standards.

Qualifications
Qualifications
+ A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field
+ 7+ years of progressive experience in PR, communications, or marketing
+ Strong writing, editing, and public speaking skills with a clear, compelling style.
+ Experience in digital content, media outreach, and storytelling strategy.
+ Familiarity with email platforms, and social media tools; Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
+ A collaborative mindset and ability to lead cross-functional initiatives.
+ Ability to travel required across all WellLife Network locations
