Job Summary
Under minimal direction, performs data abstraction and entry, review, and analysis on trauma patient’s specific to Quality Improvement. Provides consultative support to the operating units, medical staff, and service lines leaders, as appropriate, utilizing clinical data and clinical best practices to improve clinical outcomes. Supports quality improvement process implementation, working collaboratively with stakeholders to improve patient care outcomes. Provides support to the Trauma Program Manager and Trauma Medical Director, including but not limited to data entry, database maintenance and support, graphing, control charts, pivot tables, and meeting preparation and follow-up.
+ Collects, analyzes, evaluates, and displays data from clinical information and the trauma registry database based on the guidelines from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) to support the objectives of the performance improvement process.
+ Identifies all trauma activations, admissions, transfers, and deaths, using clinical identifiers and strict inclusion/exclusion criteria as defined by the American College of Surgeons. Able to identify all injuries, procedures, complications, and outcomes.
+ Provides clinical and performance improvement subject matter expertise to departments, medical staff, and clinical operations.
+ Conducts ongoing research of best practices for quality and performance improvement for specified patient populations.
+ 5. Makes recommendations to the medical staff on appropriate next steps and suggested clinical indicators for departmental improvement plans based on internal and external data as well as current literature.
+ Actively participates and facilitates best practices to drive improved outcomes based on population performance both internally and externally.
+ Retrieves and compiles data through data download from trauma data sources including other hospital databases and patient logs.
+ Develops and promotes staff education re: quality and safety initiatives.
+ Review’s trauma patients’ clinical records across the continuum of care, including EMS reports, police reports, (if available), the Emergency Department, Surgery, and inpatient records, and applies appropriate Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS-90) scores and validates ICD10 diagnostic codes, operative codes, and E-codes.
+ Management of all components of the Trauma Registry and trauma informatics, including clinical case review, data retrieval and collection, data download and entry from other database sources, data cleaning, statistics, validation, analysis, and presentation of data both internally and externally.
+ Teaches injury prevention programs as needed to be responsive to the needs of the community and trauma.
+ Actively participates in the Trauma Program meetings of the Michigan Trauma Registrars, MTQIP, or other trauma quality improvement committees.
Qualifications
+ Required Bachelor's Degree BSN
+ Preferred Master's Degree nursing, business or healthcare field.
+ 3 years of relevant experience 3 -5 years’ experience in patient safety activities and/or clinical quality improvements. Required
+ Registered Nurse (RN) - State of Michigan Upon Hire required
+ Professional in Patient Safety, Certified - IHI Institute for Healthcare Improvement Upon Hire preferred
