Position Summary:
The Arkansas State University College of Nursing and Health Professions invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Health Sciences and Risk Management (non-tenure track) to begin in Fall 2026. The position is a full-time (9-month), non-tenure track position.
The primary teaching assignment is multidisciplinary across programs in the Department of Health Sciences & Risk Management. Preferred applicants should have the ability to teach across a broad range of disciplines, including courses in occupational and environmental safety and health, emergency management, public health, nutritional science, and general healthcare. Teaching will be assigned based on the degrees, credentials, or licensures held by candidates.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include preparing, developing, and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses across multiple programs in the Department of Health Sciences and Risk Management, as credentialed and needed. Applicants should have the ability to teach across a broad range of disciplines, including courses in occupational and environmental safety and health, emergency management, public health, nutritional science, and general healthcare. Faculty are expected to maintain regular office hours, mentor students, and participate in course/program assessment.
Arkansas State University is a public research university located in Jonesboro, AR. Arkansas State University is designated by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education as a “Research 2: High Research Spending and Doctorate Production” institution. The Department of Health Sciences & Risk Management has a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary focus across its programs in Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Management, Dietetics/Nutritional Science, Public Health, Occupational & Environmental Safety & Health, and Health Studies.
Teaching load is 15 hours (5 courses) per semester. Additional responsibilities include maintaining virtual office hours, developing and recording lectures, writing exams, grading, and participating in course/program assessment.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Strong computer/technology skills required, or possess the ability to easily obtain needed skills. (Microsoft Office, Canvas and/or other Learning Management Systems (LMS), variety of WEB based programs, etc.).
Strong written and verbal communication skills required.

Location Requirement: To be considered for this position, candidates must reside in Arkansas or a state that shares a border with Arkansas (Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Missouri, or Oklahoma). This residency requirement supports team collaboration, regional knowledge, and occasional in person engagement as needed.
This position has been identified as a telecommuting position. The duties are performed during standard work hours of 8am-5pm at a predefined and approved work location. Individuals filling this role must have dedicated work space that provides privacy and security related to the work being performed. Additionally, individuals must have secure internet access with appropriate upload/download capabilities to perform the duties associated with the position. Individuals in this position will be required to review and acknowledge the Telecommuting Guidelines and Telecommuting Agreement for A-State.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications include a master’s degree in an occupational health, emergency management, or safety-related discipline; PhD or professional doctorate preferred. In addition to the PhD or professional doctorate, candidates with a Master of Public Health (MPH) or a degree in a related scientific discipline, are especially encouraged to apply. Multi-credentialed candidates with safety or industrial hygiene certifications such as the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or credentialing as a Registered Dietitian (RD) will be strongly considered.
Candidates holding a master’s degree at the time of hire will be appointed at the instructor rank. Candidates holding a PhD or professional doctorate will be appointed at the assistant professor rank.
Potential candidates should possess experience in face-to-face and online teaching at the undergraduate level.
