DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This position is responsible for the oversight of various functions performed by the city’s contracted third-party administrator and for completion of various assignments for municipal and classified injured employees qualifying for Workers’ Compensation benefits, including Salary Continuation.
+ Facilitates the progression of workers’ compensation cases for assigned departments in accordance with regulations and established procedures.
+ Maintains timely, concise, and professional communication, guidance, and education to injured employees, caregivers, and department supervisors.
+ Performs a variety of record keeping activities, including but not limited to accurate preparation and/or documentation of communication, work status changes, bona fide offers of employment, statutory employer forms, medical questionnaires, and payroll time codes.
+ Collaborates with department partners to maintain an active listing of available transitional duty assignments across city departments.
+ Cooperates with department/division leadership to prepare, edit, and revise standard operating procedures, as requested.
+ Attends meetings, seminars, and conferences as a representative of the department/division.
+ Acts as liaison between the injured employee, the third-party administrator, cross-functional HR teams, labor unions, and other city departments.
+ Participates in special projects assigned by the Director and/or the department/division head.
+ Facilitates training sessions for injured employees, supervisor/managers, and other key stakeholders.
+ Meets various performance measures as established by department.
+ Responds timely to the inquiries, requests, and needs of key stakeholders.
+ Adapts and maintains effectiveness during times of changing assignments and/or processes.
+ Performs other duties, as assigned.
WORKINGCONDITIONS
The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION REOUIREMENTS
Requires a bachelor's degree in business administration, Finance, Accounting or a related field.
EXPERIENCE REOUIREMENTS
Four years professional experience in Finance, Accounting or Worker’s Compensation are required; three years of which are in Worker’s Compensation.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Worker's compensation related experience at the professional level may be substituted for the education requirement on for-year basis.
LICENSE REOUIREMENTS
A Texas Workers’ Compensation Adjuster License is required.
PREFERENCES
Preference will be given to the candidates with the following skillset(s):
Previous experience adjusting workers’ compensation claims and/or previous experience in Risk Management, including but not limited to, possession of AIC or ARM designation.
**Preference shall also be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.*
