Job Title: Phlebotomist I - Birmingham/Hoover/TuscaloosaJob Description

The primary role of a Phlebotomist I is to support various duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and offer workflow recommendations. This position involves drawing blood, labeling specimens, centrifuging, recording maintenance data, and updating patient information.

Responsibilities

+ Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge samples.

+ Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.

+ Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously to patients.

+ Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.

+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.

+ Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.

+ Package specimens for transport and store them at required temperatures.

+ Follow procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport.

+ Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

+ Attend annual department training sessions.

+ Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results.

Essential Skills

+ 1+ years of phlebotomy experience in a hospital or clinical setting with at least 30+ blood draws per day, covering all age groups from pediatric to geriatric.

+ Proficiency in phlebotomy, blood draw, specimen collection, and processing.

+ Strong customer service skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Flexibility to work at different sites.

+ Knowledge of chemistry, hematology, microbiology, coagulation, and urinalysis.

+ Certification such as ASCP or AMT is a plus.

+ High School diploma is required.

Work Environment

The position covers the Birmingham/Hoover/Tuscaloosa area, with potential travel up to one hour, for which mileage can be expensed. The role may start as a contract but could transition to a permanent role. Phlebotomists will work in fast-paced sites, including LabCorp at Walgreen in Birmingham, AL, from Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM with a one-hour lunch break. The environment requires drawing and processing of urine and bloodwork, with an average of 35-40 draws per day. The role supports IOP accounts and offers opportunities for growth within one of the largest clinical laboratories in the world.

This is a Contract position based out of Birmingham, Alabama.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $18.00/hr.
