    Job Title: Phlebotomist IJob Description

     

    The primary role of a Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

    Responsibilities

    + Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens.

    + Record maintenance data and handle decontamination processes.

    + Update patient information accurately.

    + Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.

    + Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections clearly and courteously.

    + Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.

    + Understand and follow all physicians' orders.

    + Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

    + Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.

    + Ensure 100% accuracy by checking test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.

    + Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperatures.

    + Follow specific procedures to maintain the integrity of specimens during transport.

    + Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

    + Attend annual department trainings.

    + Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

    Essential Skills

    + Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required.

    + Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

    + Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

    + High School Diploma or GED.

    + 0-2 years of experience.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Experience with blood draws, venipuncture, and using butterfly needles.

    + Patient care skills.

    + Ability to perform phlebotomy, specimen processing, reception, and data entry.

    Work Environment

    This role operates in a busy Patient Service Center, seeing 120-130 patients daily, one of the busiest sites in the city. The work schedule is from 8am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday, with a 30-minute lunch break.

     

    Job Type & Location

     

    This is a Contract position based out of Pueblo, Colorado.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr.
