Position Summary/Description:
The Department of Computer Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks applications from individuals with exceptional teaching credentials for a full-time, teaching-track position at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor. Successful candidates will be prepared to teach a range of foundational computer science courses. Opportunities to teach upper-division courses, Honors courses, and in study abroad programs will be available in accordance with each candidate’s skills and interests. Ideal candidates will be able to employ evidence-based pedagogical methods and instructional technologies to effectively teach large classes; train, utilize, and mentor undergraduate and graduate teaching assistants; and participate in the development of undergraduate curricula. Engagement in formal academic research is welcome but optional for teaching-track faculty. Chapel Hill, NC and its adjoined neighbor town Carrboro is an especially wonderful place to live. People are friendly, and the surroundings are beautiful. Those towns and its nearby cities of Durham and Raleigh form the Research Triangle, which has roughly 2 million inhabitants, who have more doctorates per capita than any other in the United States. In the Research Triangle commuting times are much lower than major USA cities, air travel connections are very broad, and the level of opportunities for cultural performances, sports events, restaurants of all types, hiking, tennis, golf, and other participatory sports is at least as great as that you would expect in metropolitan areas of much larger size.
This position is a state-appropriated, permanent faculty line with an initial term of three years, to be renewed thereafter for terms of up to five years. It offers a promotion path to Teaching Associate Professor and Teaching Professor.
