    The Role

     

    Applies electrical, electronic and mechanical principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; construction of developmental assemblies, sub-assemblies and components; and quality testing. Supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems.

     

    This requisition is for a senior level Electromechanical Engineer (Subject Matter Expert) to support deck plate operations on Aircraft Carrier Stores and Weapons Elevators. SME is expected to hit the ground running in a fast paced, dynamic shipboard environment. The primary purpose of this role is to provide real-time deck plate support to minimize hold ups during construction and testing of stores and weapons elevators.

    The SME will be expected to:

    1) Troubleshoot complex electromechanical systems

     

    2) Mentor and train junior engineers

     

    3) Access the ship in a heavy industrial environment, to include tight spaces and vertical ladders.

     

    4) Write reports to include work and test instructions when required.

     

    5) Provide at-sea Engineering support when required (infrequent).

     

    6) Prepare and check electrical hook ups, diagrams and arrangements.

     

    7) Determine root cause and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

     

    Must Have

     

    Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience;

    Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience;

    Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.

     

    Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

     

    Nice to Have

     

    -Engineering Expertise in Advanced Weapons Elevators

     

    -Troubleshooting development and execution.

     

    -Shipboard electrical experience.

     

    -Knowledge of shipyard processes for work issuance and control.

     

    -Expert electrical engineering knowledge.

     

    -Mature working knowledge of mechanical systems

     

    -Expert knowledge of electromechanical actuators

     

    -Expert knowledge of variable speed drive systems.

     

    -Working knowledge of PLC programming.

     

    -Root Cause analysis

     

    -SAP fluent
