Position Overview
The Government Affairs Intern will support EAC Network’s External Affairs and Government Relations team by conducting research, preparing materials, and assisting with lobbying and advocacy strategy. The intern will focus on New York State and New York City Council elected officials, legislative committees, and agencies relevant to EAC’s work. This is a hands-on learning opportunity for students interested in public policy, government relations, law, political science, or nonprofit advocacy.Please note - this is an unpaid internship.
Key Responsibilities
+ Research & Analysis
+ Research key elected officials at the New York State and New York City Council levels.
+ Gather and summarize background information on elected officials, including career history, policy priorities, and district demographics.
+ Track relevant legislative committees, pending bills, funding initiatives, and public policy trends that align with EAC Network’s mission.
+ Profile & Report Development
+ Create comprehensive elected official profiles and briefing documents for use in advocacy and lobbying meetings.
+ Compile reports on legislative issues, agencies, and funding opportunities.
+ Draft memos and summaries outlining government funding strategy and potential advocacy approaches.
+ Advocacy Support
+ Assist in identifying opportunities for engagement with elected officials and stakeholders.
+ Provide research to support grant requests, testimony, position papers, and funding strategy development.
+ Support special projects and events connected to EAC’s government relations efforts.
Qualifications
+ Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program (Political Science, Public Policy, Government, Law, Nonprofit Management, or related fields preferred).
+ Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
+ Ability to synthesize information clearly and concisely.
+ Interest in government, policy, social services, and advocacy.
+ Professionalism, attention to detail, and ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
Time Commitment & Benefits
+ Flexible schedule, 10–15 hours per week (semester or summer internship).
