    POSITION: ADJUNCT DIESEL EQUIPMENT TECHNOLOGY INSTRUCTOR - Hall Campus

     

    REPORTS TO: Dean of Applied Technology

     

    SALARY: Targeted salary is paid in a lump sum based on contact hours

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Adjunct faculty responsibilities are centered on preparing and teaching classes as assigned in Diesel Equipment Technology. Will direct student learning and assess student progress in achieving the requirements of the program in the appropriate learning domains. Classes will be taught in the classroom and/or online setting. Will ensure that safety and security requirements are met in the training.

    MAJOR DUTIES:

    + Provide professional instruction based on approved course syllabus.

    + Ensures that desired course outcomes meet the stated objectives.

    + Prepares curriculum and syllabus for coursework taught.

    + Evaluates students' progress in attaining goals and objectives.

    + Administers and grades class examinations.

    + Monitors student use of supplies, materials, and equipment.

    + Maintains classrooms and laboratories in accordance with approved classroom and lab management plans.

    + Maintains records of student grades and maintains student files.

    + Attends in-service training, workshops, and seminars as needed.

    + Observes and enforces the institution’s policies and regulations

    + Meets ALL required deadlines.

    + Completes ALL mandatory training.

    + Meets with students, staff members, supervisors as needed.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Completion of a technical diploma in Diesel Equipment Technology from a regionally accredited college, and three (3) years of work experience in a position related to Diesel Equipment Technology. Must be credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting bodies for the courses assigned. Ability to work flexible hours as needed.

    COMPETENCIES:

    • Ability to teach courses under the Medium/Heavy Diesel truck curriculum. Courses include:

    o Introduction to Diesel Technology, Tools and Safety

    o Diesel Engines

    o Diesel Electrical and Electronic Systems

    o Truck Brake Systems

    o Truck Steering and Suspension Systems

    o Preventive Maintenance

    • Strong electrical/Troubleshooting skills in multiplexing/CAN-Bus

    • Strong HVAC skills with EPA 609 Certification

    • A comprehensive knowledge of Diesel equipment service, including experience with maintenance, diagnosis, troubleshooting and repair.

    • Ability to develop instructional materials, evaluating students’ progress in achieving instructional goals and objectives, ensuring safety and security requirements are met in the training area

    • Ability to obtain and maintain NATEF Accreditation in the Heavy Diesel area.

    • Knowledge of the mission of postsecondary technical education

    • Skill to work and communicate cooperatively with students, faculty, and staff

    • Ability to handle administrative responsibilities related to teaching of courses, data collection, and reporting for license agency, accreditation agencies, and the College.

    • Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs

    • Effective oral and written communication skills, decision-making and problem solving skills

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to minimum & technical competencies):

    + An Associate’s degree in Diesel Equipment Technology or closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university

    + Manufacturer Trained/Certified in multiple diesel equipment lines

    + ASE Master Certified in Medium / Heavy Truck

    + Knowledge of Blackboard (Learning Management System) is desirable.

     

    NOTE: Adjunct faculty positions are temporary, part-time positions of employment that are appointed on a per-academic-term basis.
