    Infection Prevention & Wound Care Supervisor (RN)

     

    Employment Type: Full-Time | On-Site

    Position Summary

    The Infection Prevention & Wound Care Supervisor is responsible for providing clinical leadership, oversight, and direction in both infection prevention and wound management. This position ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, supports quality resident outcomes, and promotes a safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education

    + Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

    Experience

    + Minimum of one (1) year RN supervisory experience in a long-term care or sub-acute setting.

    + Demonstrated leadership ability and strong clinical skills.

    + Prior experience in infection control preferred.

    + At least one (1) year of wound/skin care experience preferred.

    Licensure & Certifications

    + Current, unencumbered RN license in the State of New York.

    + Current CPR and IV certification.

    + Infection Control Certification (required by NYS; must be obtained if not current).

    + Wound Care Certification preferred (AAWM or WOCN).

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Supervisory & Clinical Leadership

    + Oversee nursing services on assigned shifts, ensuring adherence to clinical and regulatory standards.

    + Ensure all new admissions are accurately assessed and documented.

    + Monitor staff performance and documentation; provide guidance, coaching, and corrective action as necessary.

    + Participate in staff evaluations and disciplinary processes.

    + Assist in the development, implementation, and review of resident care plans.

    + Serve as a clinical resource and role model for staff.

    + Participate in state and federal surveys as required.

    Infection Prevention & Control

    + Develop, implement, and monitor the facility’s Infection Prevention & Control Program.

    + Conduct surveillance, monitor infection trends, and report findings to leadership and state/local authorities.

    + Perform routine infection control rounds to ensure compliance with universal precautions, isolation practices, and hand hygiene standards.

    + Provide staff education and training on infection prevention.

    + Serve as chair/member of the Infection Prevention & Control Committee.

    Wound & Skin Care

    + Complete wound assessments and establish individualized treatment plans.

    + Lead interdisciplinary wound rounds and coordinate physician consultations.

    + Provide wound care training and competency validation for nursing staff.

    + Recommend evidence-based wound care products and practices.

    + Monitor quality improvement initiatives related to skin integrity.

    Staff Education & Training

    + Develop, coordinate, and provide education and training for nursing staff and other departments on all areas of clinical practice, regulatory requirements, infection prevention, wound care, and quality initiatives.

    + Ensure new staff receive orientation and ongoing in-service training as required by facility policy and regulatory standards.

    + Conduct competency assessments and provide remediation or refresher training as needed.

    + Collaborate with department heads to ensure consistent staff development across all disciplines.

    + Maintain records of staff education and training to ensure compliance with state, federal, and facility requirements.

    Administrative

    + Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly infection control and wound care reports.

    + Participate in policy and procedure review and revision.

    + Assist with product and supply evaluation for cost-effective clinical practice.

    + Maintain compliance with documentation and reporting requirements.

    Additional Expectations

    + Report to work on time and in compliance with facility dress code.

    + Wear facility-issued identification while on duty.

    + Notify supervisor of lateness or absence in advance when possible.

    + Adjust time-off requests as needed to meet operational requirements.

    + Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing.
