Sr. Staff Engineer Systems
In the Defense Systems sector, you’ll join our experts in developing systems that keep our world safe. We are looking for a Senior Staff Systems Engineer that demonstrates the following critical skills:
+ Demonstrates mastery of scientific theory and/or considerable innovation in identifying alternative approaches to solving problems. Regularly takes a leadership role in providing insight and knowledge transfer to others on internal and external technical solutions to solve complex problems.
+ Serves as an authority on scientific principles and broad technical areas. Demonstrated ability to formally present technical solutions to senior leadership. Known as an influencer of change.
+ Provides technical leadership, direction and mentoring to other technical employees in the application of scientific principles, tools and techniques to achieve practical end results. Develops advanced technological ideas and guides their development into a final product that has a direct impact on the sector. Contributes to priority initiatives critical to achievement of long range strategic planning (LRSP) objectives.
+ Serves as organization spokesperson on multiple advanced projects and/or programs that have a direct impact on the sector (both technical and non-technical). Acts as advisor to management, co-workers and customers on advanced technical research studies and applications. Maintains critical external customer contact to understand their technical needs.
+ Demonstrates LRSP critical skills. Applies creativity and vision for the future that require synthesis of related disciplines. Provides teams with internal and external knowledge of the technical industry and how it impacts the company. Serves as an expert for a significant technical area within the team.

+ Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter, a team player, and possess the ability to research and effectively resolve technical issues both independently and as part of a large multi-disciplined team. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as interpersonal skills in order to coordinate with a variety of disciplines are also essential. This position requires the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt quickly to frequently changing requirements.
This position requires on-site work in Rocket Center, WV
Basic Qualifications for Sr. Staff Systems Engineer:
+ 14 Years with Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering; 12 Years with Masters; 10 Years with PhD.
+ US Citizenship required
+ Active DoD Secret Security clearance
+ Minimum of 20 years of direct relevant experience in the field of ignition safety devices (ISDs)
+ Minimum of 20 years of demonstrated experience with ABL Development Lifecycle - focus on early concept, trade studies, white papers, risk reduction activities, and cost reduction initiatives
+ Risk and Opportunity Management experience
+ Experience in business development activities and customer relations
+ Experience in gathering requirements and leading projects, including HIL/SIL support at customer sites
+ Familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
+ Ability to effectively communicate and present complex technical concepts to project, program, and company management, other technical managers, and customers
+ Interface with program and customer personnel.
+ Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision
+ Must be able to apply advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts and contribute to the development of new principles and concepts.
+ Experience working on unusually complex technical projects and provide solutions which are highly innovative and ingenious.
+ Experience reading hardware schematics
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
+ Strong organizational skills in managing time, projects and resources
+ Ability and willingness to travel 10%
Preferred Qualifications of Sr. Staff Systems Engineer:
+ Knowledge of Systems Engineering processing from generation of an Integrated Master Plan (IMP) to Work Product Breakdown into Integrated Master Schedules (IMS) for the development of simple and complex systems
+ Experience working through the Systems Engineering process, including proposal support
+ Experience and ability to work with engineering management and leadership to define strategic goals and establish/maintain solid customer relations
+ Experience managing engineers in either a group setting or as part of a larger engineering program
+ Experience with successful presentations to the various USG safety boards and technical review panels
+ Ability to document and maintain lessons learned from real-time performance
+ Ability to mentor newer members of the engineering team
+ Experience in development and earned value management of cost accounts and schedules as related to development engineering tasks
+ Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools (CAMEO)
+ Knowledge of system engineering design methods, including requirements analysis and flow-down, specification derivation and interface control documentation
+ Experience with verification and validation techniques
Primary Level Salary Range: $162,500.00 - $243,700.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
