    About this Job

     

    TheInsurance Fraud/Auto Theft (IFAT) Unit is responsible for investigating referrals of suspected fraudulent insurance acts; assisting federal and local law enforcement in the investigation of fraudulent insurance acts; cooperating with local prosecutors and the attorney general's office in the prosecution of fraudulent insurance acts; and promoting awareness of insurance fraud throughout the state. Additionally, the Unit is responsible for investigating individuals and illicit organizations involved in the theft of motor vehicles.

     

    The Criminal Investigator position functions to conduct criminal, administrative, and regulatory investigations; and may conduct surveillance of known and suspected criminal targets for purposes of intelligence gathering and investigation.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Two years of experience in law enforcement, investigatory work or military intelligence work; OR

     

    Twelve hours in law enforcement or a criminal justice field.

    NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

     

    Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.

     

    Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

     

    An applicant will be disqualified if he or she has been convicted of a felony or if there are any indictments or bills of information pending against him or her in which felony charges are included; or if he or she has been convicted within the past three years of hit and run or driving while intoxicated.

    Job Duties:

    + Investigates violations of Louisiana law, gathering evidence and documenting all activities associated with each investigation.

    + Conducts interviews and interrogations of witnesses, victims, and suspects in accordance with legal protocols and investigative best practices.

    + Prepares detailed investigative reports that summarize findings, support legal proceedings, and ensure accurate case documentation.

    + Analyzes and documents emerging crime trends to support proactive enforcement strategies and departmental planning.

    Career Progression: As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Criminal Investigator 1, Criminal Investigator 2, or Criminal Investigator 3, based on the level of experience of the selected applicant.

    Compensation:

    Criminal Investigator 1 (PS-112)--Minimum Biweekly--$1,764.80

     

    Criminal Investigator 2 (PS-113)--Minimum Biweekly--$1,888.00

     

    Criminal Investigator 3 (PS-115)--Minimum Biweekly--$2,161.60
