    **Job Title:** Newborn Hearing Screening Technician

    **Location:** Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Medical Center East, 4th Floor

    **Schedule:** Flexible 10-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM), including weekdays and weekends based on clinical needs.

    About the Role:

    Join our pediatric care team as a Newborn Hearing Screening Technician, where you'll play a vital role in early hearing detection and intervention for newborns. This position supports the newborn nursery by conducting hearing screenings for 15–20 babies per shift, ensuring accurate documentation and compassionate communication with caregivers.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Perform hearing screenings for all eligible newborns during assigned shifts.

    + Communicate screening results to caregivers both verbally and through written materials.

    + Document results in the patient’s electronic health record (EPIC).

    + Collaborate with the Pediatric Division Director to report equipment, patient, or staff-related concerns.

    Schedule Details:

    + Shifts are 10 hours: 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM with a 30-minute lunch.

    + Coverage is based on clinical needs, including PTO coverage and illness-related call-outs.

    + Shifts may occur on weekdays or weekends.

    Qualifications:

    + Experience working with infants or young children preferred.

    + Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

    + Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provides support to audiologists through collection of data, assisting with researching topics, transportation of patients or other patient care support services.

    • Maintains supplies at acceptable levels.

    • Provides basic screening services (Prepare infant or child for hearing screening, performs hearing screening and communicates results to family).

    TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES

    • Rehab PTA/COTA Patient Documentation (Novice): Demonstrates sufficient proficiency in communicating functional impact of assessment findings, treatment interventions, treatment planning diagnosis, and disease process. Considers the communication needs/level of understanding of audience and may share appropriate information/literature.

    • Quality Assurance (Fundamental Awareness): Understands the goal of increasing organizational productivity and individual performance by making the products and services within your work assignments more efficient and more effective. Demonstrates quality management practices on the job which result in superior products and services delivered.

    • Audiology Patient Education (Novice): Communicates functional impact of assessment findings, treatment interventions, diagnosis, and disease process. Adapts communication to the level of understanding of the patient. Determines comprehension and need for repetition and/or revision of methods.

    • Equipment Maintenance (Fundamental Awareness): Has limited experience, training, direct exposure, or past experience conducting maintenance activities in area of assignments.
