AmeriCorps members are dedicated national service participants who commit their time and skills through defined terms of service to support communities and address critical local challenges.
The AmeriCorps member will serve as part of the Education Department at the museum, working directly under the supervision of the Education Coordinator. Their primary focus will be to support and deliver high-impact educational programming to K-12 students, with an emphasis on equitable access to culturally relevant history education. The member will play a key role in facilitating Hands-on History programs, field trips, and other student focused educational experiences. As capacity allows, the AmeriCorps member may also assist with community events, adult educational programming, and broader outreach initiatives.

Description of Job
Terms of Service:
+ The Member will serve at theEl Pueblo History Museum.
+ The AmeriCorps member will serve for an average of 17 hours per week during the service term, for a minimum of 675 hours over the course of their service term.
+ Flexible hours are required, including occasional evenings. Members may be expected to commit to weekend hours regularly.
+ The AmeriCorps member will be directly supervised by the Education Coordinator, with additional oversight and support provided by the Program Manager.
+ Service term beginsNovember 3 , 2025 and ends August 21, 2026 .
+ Mandatory Orientation on September 8th and 9th, 2025
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
+ Facilitate field trips, classroom visits, and other educational activities, tailoring content to be culturally relevant and aligned with academic standards.
+ Create and teach lesson plans for Hands-On History classes aligned with our Hands-On History pillars.
+ Collaborate with museum staff and community partners to enhance program reach and impact.
+ Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to the continuous improvement of educational programming.
+ Support and facilitate other History Colorado community engagement and story initiative projects as needed.
Service Term Overview:
Fall (Nov 3–Dec 5, 2025): Facilitate Hands-On History (HOH) Fridays.
Special Events:
+ Holiday Cultural Festival: Dec 6, 2025
Winter Break (Dec 29–31, 2025, tentative): Support HOH Winter Break Camp.
Spring (Jan 30–Apr 24, 2025, tentative): Facilitate HOH Fridays.
Spring Break (Mar 23–27, 2025): Assist with HOH Spring Break Camp.
Summer (June 15–July 3 & July 13–Aug 14, 2025, tentative): Support HOH Summer Camp, including facilitation and clean-up.
Training and Support Provided:
+ In-person orientation to History Colorado at the History Colorado Center, mileage and lodging costs covered.
+ Training provided by site supervisors for position responsibilities.
+ Additional training and professional development opportunities offered throughout the service term.
AmeriCorps positions are service opportunities and not employment positions. Members will receive a living allowance, training, and support during their service term.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

+ Strong interest in history, education, or a related field.
+ Experience in educational programming, museum education, or working with K-12 students preferred.
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
+ Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
+ 18 years of age or older.
+ High school diploma or equivalent.
+ A U.S. citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident, due to AmeriCorps rules and regulations.
+ Ability to pass criminal history checks required.
+ Patience is required, as you will be in a position that largely serves children.
+ Background in history, education, cultural studies, or a related discipline preferred.
+ Familiarity with Colorado's diverse historical and cultural landscapes preferred.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
+ Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
+ Flexibility to work weekends and special events as needed.
+ May require lifting heavy objects and working on ladders.
+ May require periodic travel by car, van, and truck to locations throughout the state, typically for periods of less than one week in duration.
