Job Description:
A Senior Project Engineer (Data Analyst-Engineering) for Track Asset Management is responsible for overseeing and managing various engineering projects from conception to completion. They collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop project plans, set objectives, allocate resources, and monitor progress. They provide technical expertise and guidance to ensure projects are executed efficiently and meet quality standards. Senior Project Engineers also analyze project data, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions. They manage track data collected by a Track Geometry Inspection Vehicle (TGIV) and develop a functional database for storage and analysis of TGIV data and Track Assets. They may also be involved in budgeting, risk assessment, and client communication. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential for success in this role.
Roles and Responsibilities
1. Plans, designs, and coordinates complex construction, maintenance, rehabilitation, and/or alteration of railroad tracks, and/or other rail infrastructure systems. Including the design and development of a functional database to support track asset management and the operation of a Track Geometry Inspection Vehicle.
2. Coordinates the activities of assigned project staff and/or contractors in the design, maintenance, development, and implementation of complex track engineering projects. Coordinates with the Track Geometry Inspection Vehicle operators to ensure new data is uploaded in an accurate and timely fashion for proper recorking. Assist with the operation of the TGIV.
3. Recommends standards and criteria for design and construction for complex track engineering projects. Develops designs, proposals, schedules, and cost estimates for assigned track projects.
4. Develops and integrates data management to allow for automatic updates of a Track Information Management System (TIMS) and other track infrastructure management systems. Analyzes track data to identify trends and forecast future needs and improvements.
5. Evaluates progress and results of engineering activity and recommends changes in procedures of assigned projects. Maintain compliance with relevant data standards, organizational policies, and regulatory framework (FRA, AAR, and others)
6. Maintains liaison with individuals and units (internally and externally) to facilitate the completion of assigned projects. Ensure uploaded assets meet archival standards.
7. Estimates human and other resources needs and schedules work to meet completion dates and technical specifications. Train new users of the systems.
Education, Experience and Qualifications:
• Baccalaureate degree in Civil, Mechanical, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related area of study
• One (1) year of related experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Access required.
• Understanding of railway engineering concepts and terminology desired.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Working Environment
Professional Engineer License in the state of New Jersey is desired.
