Purpose:
Supervises Lead Medical Transcriptionists and Medical Transcriptionists, coordinate staffing and work schedules, oversee the training of new staff, quality and timeliness of reports and continuing education of staff. Assist Director in providing quality services for patient care for all UPMC hospitals, UPMC clinics and other UPMC facilities that utilize the department's transcription services and any entities that the department may begin providing services for.
Responsibilities:
+ Supervise Lead Medical Transcriptionists and Medical Transcriptionists to include scheduling, coordinating adequate coverage for turnaround goals and individual job performance. Strive to meet turnaround goals in relation to available staff and system limitation; prioritize and/or assign jobs as necessary to provide timely information to caregivers. Complete performance management reviews for all Lead Medical Transcriptionists and Medical Transcriptionists according to established due dates. Ensure that the dictation and word processing systems are in working order, including performing routine maintenance functions according to standard procedure and notifying the appropriate personnel of problems. Perform monthly Quality Assurance audits for all Medical Transcriptionists and focused QA audits as needed. Additionally, calculate and record production rates for all Medical Transcriptionists. Perform counseling and/or corrective action as needed regarding job performance for all Lead Medical Transcriptionists and Medical Transcriptionists. Communicate monthly quality and productivity rates to each Medical Transcriptionist. Assist the Director with the hiring and training process.
+ Participate in Quality Improvement initiatives by making suggestions regarding training, development of work schedules and any issues brought forth by Lead Medical Transcriptionists and Medical Transcriptionists. Provide leadership for Lead Medical Transcriptionists and Medical Transcriptionists, onsite and home-based. Provide off-shift on call services. Cover departmental operations in the absence of the Director.
Three to five years of medical transcription experience or a graduate of an accredited medical transcription program. Proficient writing skills and the ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, transcriptionists, and clinical staff is essential. Supervisory experience and certification is preferred, but not required
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Certified Medical Transcriptionist.is preferred.
