    Job Summary and Qualifications

     

    The Patient Transportation Driver provides passenger transports, as a community benefit, in a non-emergency vehicle. Transportation is provided to and from passenger’s homes, Methodist Healthcare facilities and physician’s offices in a timely, efficient and safe manner.

    Minimum Education, Experience, Training, Required Knowledge, Skill, Abilities and Other Job-Related Characteristics:

    1. **Education:** High School diploma or equivalent.

    2. **Experience:** Two (2) years’ experience in transportation/delivery and general knowledge of city roads/highways.

    3. Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit which are specific to the needs of the patient population served (if applicable).

    4. **Preferred:** Two (2) years passenger transportation experience to include wheelchair bound patients.

    **Minimum License, Certificates, or Registrations Required:** Valid Driver’s License and driving record in good standing.

    Essential Job Functions:

    1. Responsible for supporting the overall delivery of assigned daily route for patient transportation services in a safe, timely and efficient manner.

    2. Displays proficiency in responding to dispatch directions within different service areas and routes. This includes adjusting passenger transportation schedules, as needed, to fulfill the requirements.

    3. Maintains constant communication with Department Supervisor and/or Coordinator to ensure effective and efficient use of resources, including providing support for other routes as needed.

    4. Maintains assigned route vehicle appearance and cleanliness in addition to insuring vehicle is functioning in a safe and operable condition.

    5. Maintains established records and performs applicable data entry functions to ensure prompt and efficient documentation required by department, including vehicle maintenance.

    6. Receives dispatches in a professional and courteous manner. Manages time to ensure it is spent productively to provide the e of calls, while effectively managing each call.

    7. Obey all traffic rules and regulations guiding the operation of Patient Transportation services in assigned route. This may include plying the predetermined routes but not going beyond stipulated boundaries.

    Additional Job Functions:

    1. Supports the mission and vision of the Methodist Healthcare System and demonstrates excellent customer service at all times.

    2. Understands and is committed to helping the Methodist Healthcare System and its associated facilities achieve its goals.

    3. Must learn and comply with System and facility safety policies and rules; must use appropriate safety equipment and procedures at all times; must immediately report all unsafe conditions to supervisors; must be familiar with all safety features of equipment, tools or materials encompassed by job duties; and must check with supervisors (prior to job performance) if there is a question as to the safe procedure to be used for any job function.

    4. Adheres to the MHS Code of Conduct and demonstrates ethical behavior as expected by our patients, colleagues and the community. Understands the personal obligation to report any activity that appears to violate applicable laws, rules regulations or the Code of Conduct itself.

    5. Provide team support, including personally driving applicable transportation routes as needed, operational reporting and data entry.

    6. Completes other duties as assigned.
