Job Summary and Qualifications
The Emergency Preparedness Manager must work with the Director of Safety and is responsible for integrating the requirements of the Emergency Preparedness Management Plan and the Hazardous materials and Waste Management plan into the hospitals overall Environment of Care (EOC) activities. The manager coordinates disaster response or crisis management activities, provides disaster preparedness training, and prepares emergency plans and procedures for natural (e.g., hurricanes, floods), wartime, or technological (e.g., nuclear power plant emergencies, hazardous spills) disasters or hostage situations.
What you will do:
+ Assist and support the EOC Committee in updating and publishing the hospital Emergency Management Plan annually.
+ Work directly with the Director of Safety and Security to design, develop, coordinate and implement hospital-wide and site-specific training regarding the hospital Emergency Management Plan.
+ Help orchestrate the execution of a minimum of two Hospital-wide Emergency Preparedness Drills per year, one of which must include a coordinated response with local emergency services.
+ Participate with internal and external task forces, committees, and agencies regarding emergency preparedness including those at the hospital, local, regional, and state levels.
+ Ensure that all Joint Commission guidelines for EOC Emergency Preparedness standards are communicated and met.
+ Support the implementation and on-going education of the hospitals incident management system (in compliance with the national Incident Management System) throughout the organization.
+ Provide project management support for those committees responsible for developing specific needs associated with various emergency scenarios for external events (trauma, bio-terrorism, chemical, nuclear), and internal events (fire, weather, damaged utilities, etc.).
+ Develop an Annual Report on the Emergency Preparedness Plan, and present the annual report and program critiques to the Hospital Environment of Care Committee and the Hospital Medical Executive Committee as part of the Environment of Care standards.
+ Develop and maintain the hospital Emergency Management (External and Internal) Plan Manual (both hard copy and on-line), and ensure that an updated version of the manual is available at least annually, and the plan meets JCAHO standards.
What qualifications you will need:
+ Bachelors or Associates Degree preferred
+ Decon and HICS certification to be completed upon employment and HazMat within 90 days of employment start date.
+ Minimum of 2 years in some aspect of emergency preparedness
+ Working knowledge of Joint Commission EOC standards preferred
