    Job Description:

The Department of Psychology at Ohio University invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level within our American Psychological Association-accredited clinical psychology Ph.D. program. This position will begin August 16, 2026.

The Department of Psychology at Ohio University invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level within our American Psychological Association-accredited clinical psychology Ph.D. training program. Preference will be given to applicants whose program of research would create synergies with other faculty in the department (e.g., child/adolescent clinical psychology, health psychology, transdiagnostic factors related to addiction and disordered eating, assessment).

Ohio University is a Carnegie Foundation R1 (highest research activity) institution, and the successful applicant will demonstrate a strong research record. Our clinical program follows the scientist-practitioner model of training and maintains an on-site training clinic that provides ample opportunities for clinical practice and research. Reflecting the department’s commitment to collaborative, cross-disciplinary scholarship, research specialties often cut across both the experimental and clinical psychology programs. Multiple resources for developing and maintaining a strong research program are available, including infrastructure for grant procurement, grant mentoring, research lab space, and start-up funds.

Responsibilities include maintaining an active, high-quality, fundable research program, directing graduate student research, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, supervising assessment and/or psychotherapy practica, and participating in departmental service. Teaching load is typically 1-2 courses each semester during the 9-month academic calendar, depending on research productivity. Candidates must be committed to working effectively with students, faculty and staff who hold diverse perspectives.

Ohio University has a rich history, diverse campuses, international communities, and beautiful Appalachian settings. As part of our ongoing efforts to provide and support a transformative learning experience, we affirm our commitment to fostering a welcoming and respectful workforce and community. Athens, home of Ohio University, provides a classic and vibrant residential learning environment for over 20,000 students, and is a family-friendly and culturally rich community. The charm of treelined brick walkways on the University’s College Green makes you feel as if you are at a small college rather than a large university. Athens is frequently cited as one of the best college towns, including by USA Today and World Atlas.

The Department of Psychology is home to 33 full-time faculty who serve over 1,400 undergraduate students and 60 graduate students across the main and seven regional campuses in Southern and Central Ohio. Committed to excellence in research, teaching, and service, the department is consistently recognized as one of the top departments at Ohio University for its outstanding research and student outreach.
