    Summary

    As a member of the college of engineering dean’s office staff, this position will work closely with the dean and associate deans to leverage data to enhance strategic planning, improve student success, and support faculty research within the college. The ideal candidate will be adept at transforming complex data into compelling and easy-to-understand visualizations and enabling data-informed decision-making.

    Responsibilities and Essential Duties

    1. Student and Academic Data Analysis: Analyze student enrollment, retention, and graduation data to identify trends and support student success initiatives.

    2. Provide data-driven insights to support the assessment and continuous

     

    improvement of academic programs.

     

    3. Financial Data Analysis: Analyze financial data, including budget allocations,

     

    grant spending, and fundraising outcomes, to support the Dean's office in

     

    financial planning and resource management.

     

    4. Faculty & Research Metrics: Develop dashboards and reports to track research funding, faculty publications, and other key performance indicators (KPIs) relevant to a college of engineering.

    5. Data Visualization and Presentation: Design and create interactive dashboards and reports using tools like Tableau or Power BI.

    6. Prepare clear and compelling graphics and slide decks for various audiences, including the Dean's office, department heads, and faculty.

    7. Database Management & Reporting: Utilize and query the university's database systems, including the Banner system, to extract and prepare data for analysis and reporting.

    8. Respond to ad-hoc data requests from the Dean's office, department heads, and faculty.

    9. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying

     

    them to everyday work. Actively engage in university continuous improvement

     

    initiatives.

     

    10. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.

     

    Required Education, Certifications, Licensures

     

    Bachelor of Science degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.

    Required Experience

    Demonstrated experience in creative, compelling data analysis and

     

    visualization.

     

    Desirable Education and/or Experience

     

    Experience with higher ed data analysis and tools (e.g., Banner/WebFocus).

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

    • Demonstrated commitment to contribute to a safe work environment.

    • Leadership Skills:

    • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to

     

    translate complex data findings into actionable insights for diverse

     

    academic and administrative audiences.

     

    • Strong problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.

    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with diverse

     

    stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and students.

    Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

    • Demonstrated expertise with data visualization software (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).

    • Proficiency in SQL for data extraction.

    • Proficiency with presentation software like PowerPoint or Google Slides, with a strong eye for graphic design.

    • Familiarity with statistical analysis and data modeling principles
