Position Summary
UVA Health is seeking a dedicated and skilled Advanced Practice Provider (APP)—Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Associate (PA)—to join our growing Cardiology team. This APP will provide care in both the Structural Heart/Valve Program and General Cardiology clinics, working collaboratively with cardiologists, surgeons, and multidisciplinary team members to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. The role will include direct outpatient clinical care, diagnostic evaluations, peri-procedural management, and coordination of long-term follow-up for patients with structural heart disease as well as those requiring general cardiology care.
Preferred:
•Prior clinical experience in cardiology, internal medicine, or cardiovascular subspecialties.
•Familiarity with structural heart disease, valve therapies, or interventional cardiology (training will be provided).
•Experience with outpatient management of cardiovascular conditions.
Schedule and Work Environment
•Full-time, outpatient clinical role based primarily in UVA’s Ambulatory Cardiology and Structural Heart/Valve clinics.
•Day shifts, Monday through Friday.
•Option for four 10-hour days.
•No regular weekend or overnight call expected.
Key Responsibilities
+ Provide independent and collaborative care to patients in the Structural Heart/Valve Program and General Cardiology clinics.
+ Perform comprehensive histories, physical examinations, diagnostic evaluations, and ongoing management of patients with structural and general cardiovascular disease.
+ Support the evaluation and care coordination of patients undergoing advanced structural interventions (e.g., TAVR, MitraClip, Watchman).
+ Participate in pre-procedural screening, education, and post-procedural follow-up care.
+ Manage common cardiovascular conditions such as hypertension, coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, and valvular disorders.
+ Collaborate with interventional cardiology, cardiac surgery, imaging, and other subspecialty teams to ensure coordinated, high-quality care.
+ Provide patient and family education regarding disease processes, treatment options, procedural care, and long-term self-management strategies.
+ Coordinate diagnostic testing, referrals, and follow-up care.
+ Document clinical encounters accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EPIC).
+ Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, case conferences, and program development initiatives.
+ Contribute to quality improvement efforts, research, and/or educational outreach within the Structural Heart Program and General Cardiology.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master’s degree.
Experience: Department and unit specific.
Licensure: License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
Position Compensation Range: $96,907.20 - $155,043.20 Annual
