Job Title: Specimen ProcessorJob Description
Under the direction of department leadership, you will perform clerical and technical laboratory duties in a timely and accurate manner. You will ensure that the quality of your work exceeds customer expectations and take pride in executing customer service tasks at a high level. This role requires you to align with the mission, vision, and values of the organization while understanding the critical impact your daily tasks have on patients and healthcare providers.
Responsibilities
+ Understand and adhere to all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements.
+ Support leadership during audits when needed.
+ Ship, receive, and track packages and specimens, ensuring the integrity of samples.
+ Receive, classify, and process specimens accurately and promptly.
+ Inspect specimens and paperwork for accuracy and acceptability.
+ Ensure samples are handled and stored at appropriate temperatures to prevent loss.
+ Accurately perform data entry functions using appropriate systems.
+ Proofread work for content, spelling, accuracy, and document format.
+ Prepare samples for laboratory testing as required.
+ Perform reagent preparation when necessary.
+ Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain equipment, performing routine maintenance and calibration.
+ Identify and document sample issues or discrepancies, resolving them with clients as appropriate.
+ Respond to telephone calls and email requests with professionalism and courtesy.
+ Research and resolve issues, following up with customers promptly.
+ Provide exemplary customer service through written and verbal communication.
+ Maintain organization of departmental records as needed.
+ Support the maintenance of reagent and supply inventory.
+ Work weekend and holiday rotations as scheduled.
+ Train others on job tasks as assigned.
+ Maintain all applicable competencies and sufficient continuing education credits.
+ Comply with all standard operating policies and procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ High school diploma with 6+ months of work experience in production or healthcare
+ Associate's degree in life science or related field with retail or fast-paced experience
+ Bachelor's degree in a science-related field
+ Phlebotomy certification is a plus
+ Experience in processing or healthcare is beneficial
Work Environment
The work schedule is Monday to Thursday, 8:00 pm to 6:30 am, with rotating holidays. The laboratory is divided into three areas: reference lab, HLA (DNA testing), and testing labs. This position is located in the testing lab, servicing multiple locations. The dress code requires scrubs or business casual attire, including long pants and comfortable, closed-toe shoes. Equipment used includes centrifuges, freezers, refrigerators, pH meters, and microscopes. Overtime is not likely but additional hours can be added if desired.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $17.50 - $21.31/hr.
