State of Idaho Opportunity Administrative Assistant (TEMPORARY) - Admin Office Full-time (40 hours) - $18 - $20 per hour D.O.E.
The Idaho State Public Defender (SPD) is a newly created state agency which provides trial representation to indigent criminal defendants pursuant to Idaho Code §§ 19-6005, 19-6009 (effective 10/1/24). The SPD is responsible for all indigent defense cases throughout the State of Idaho, including both juveniles and adults. The SPD values its employees and offers meaningful work that has a direct impact on citizens across the state.
POSITION & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Administrative Assistant plays a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the State Public Defender’s Office. This position serves as the first point of contact for clients and visitors, manages a high volume of calls, and provides general office and administrative support. The role also supports the Director and leadership team with scheduling, travel arrangements, and other administrative tasks to keep the office running smoothly.
This is a 5-month temporary, non-benefitted position that reports to the Operations Director for SPD functions .
Example of Duties
+ Frontline client service representative handling a high volume of incoming calls efficiently and professionally.
+ Requires maintaining a professional demeanor and the ability to handle stressful situations.
+ Greet walk-in clients.
+ Distribute mail.
+ Create, process, and maintain a variety of documents and administrative records.
+ Schedule and coordinate arrangements for meetings.
+ Respond to inquiries and explain department services, policies, and procedures.
+ Maintain confidentiality of client information and adhere to ethical standards.
+ Monitor the Admin E-serve inbox and disburse emails/documents to the appropriate parties.
+ Other administrative tasks as assigned; and
+ Provides administrative and logistical support to executive staff, primarily the Director, but is available to assist other leaders as needed. Key responsibilities include managing the Director’s schedule, booking travel, and performing other related support tasks to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
+ Good knowledge of office support functions, including word processing, filing, composing a variety of business documents, and reception. Typically gained through at least one year of experience in an office environment performing a wide variety of office support functions;
+ Good knowledge of composing a variety of business documents; and
+ Balancing and coordinating a workload for multiple projects.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Excellent customer service skills;
+ Desire to work as part of a team;
+ Experience interpreting, applying, and explaining complex information;
+ Experience independently solving problems/performing liaison activities; and
+ Ability to multitask with multiple interruptions.
PREFERRED START DATE & WORK HOURS
+ October 23, 2025
+ Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (with 1 hour lunch break)
