Job Title: Payroll Manager (Contract)

About the Role

Our client, a leading organization in the services industry, is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager for a 3–6 month contract to support their payroll operations during a period of transition and optimization. This role is ideal for a hands-on professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can ensure accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing for a mid-to-large-sized workforce.

Key Responsibilities

+ Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for multi-state employees on a bi-weekly basis.

+ Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.

+ Manage payroll tax filings, garnishments, and deductions.

+ Collaborate with HR, Finance, and external vendors to ensure data accuracy and resolve discrepancies.

+ Lead or support payroll system audits, reconciliations, and process improvements.

+ Maintain confidentiality of employee payroll data and ensure data integrity.

+ Provide reporting and analysis to internal stakeholders as needed.

Requirements

Qualifications

+ 5+ years of payroll experience, with at least 2 years in a payroll leadership or management role.

+ Strong knowledge of payroll systems (e.g., ADP, UKG, Paylocity, or similar).

+ Experience with multi-state payroll and tax compliance.

+ Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and analytical skills.

+ Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.

+ Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred

+ Experience in the services industry.

+ CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification.

+ Familiarity with payroll integrations with HRIS and accounting systems.
