    Research Support Specialist

    Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

    Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biomedical Engineering, Stem Cell Biology, Tissue Engineering or related field. Research experience. Experience with cardiac tissue engineering and biofabrication of functional 3D tissues generated from induced pluripotent stem cells. Experience in operating equipment, carrying out test procedures, and using special methods for data collation and interpretation.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biomedical Engineering, Stem Cell Biology, Tissue Engineering or related field.

    Brief Description of Duties:

    Engineer induced pluripotent stem cell-derived tissues, especially cardiovascular tissues, utilizing advanced biofabrication techniques; perform advanced image and data analyses on the biophysical and mechanical functions and performances of biofabricated tissues, utilizing custom-developed and programmed computational analysis methods; as well as collate and interpret data using custom quantitative methods in support of a research project for Dr. Michael Mak in the Department of Pharmacology.

     

    The successful incumbent will have excellent interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving. The ideal candidate has the ability to demonstrate professional competence in research activities.

    Duties:

    + Conduct experiments; provide technical laboratory support on biofabication, tissue engineering, and tissue culture to assist with experiments conducted.

    + Perform literature search; staying current in the field by reading and discussing the literature and experimental results with the supervisor and/or PI.

    + Collect data, record observations and measurements, analyze data, code custom computational analysis programs, and prepare reports for review of supervisor and/or PI.

    + Other duties as assigned.

    The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Non-Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
