We are looking for you to join our team as a Software Engineering Manager 2 to support the execution of cutting edge Architecture and Framework Software Engineering programs.

This is a dual-role technical manager position. Management duties will require tasking and coordination of approximately 10-15 staff, as well as process and resource co‐ordination with functional homeroom management. The manager will also be expected to perform program technical support. It is anticipated that given the size of the functional team, the split between technical and functional management duties will be on average approximately 80% technical / 20% functional. The direct program support may include technical activities such as IPT leadership and/or any other appropriate technical function.
As a member of the leadership team you will be:
• Managing a team of 10-15 technical staff. Functional management responsibilities include staffing support/allocation, performance and compensation management, and career goals development.
• Leading the software life cycle engineering execution to include design, development, test/integration, and deployment/sustainment activities.
• Accountable to stakeholders and program managers for project status reviews, impediments / roadblock resolution, and the overall engineering / product quality execution.
• Partnering with the program management office to ensure successful execution while accounting for cost, schedule, and resources management targets.
• Providing technical leadership to the execution team to ensure that best practices as well as the applicable engineering processes and procedures are fully and adequately implemented.
• Driving sustainable continuous improvement.
• Developing and implementing a critical skills growth strategy focused on building world class execution teams.
Basic Qualifications for Software Engineering Manager 2:
• Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with 8+ years of experience (or Master of Science degree with 6 years; Ph.D. with 4 years) within a related engineering field.
• Experience managing engineering teams of 10 or more.
• Demonstrated strong communication skills and the ability to lead a diverse multi-disciplinary team with high levels of engagement, including mentoring and coaching.
• Strong hands-on object-oriented programming experience to include Python & C++.
• Demonstrated professional experience with software CI/CD tools such as GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins as well as the Atlassian tool suite to include Jira.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases design, management, and interaction.
• Experience with full-stack software engineering.
• Experience with Agile software development, object-oriented architecture, software integration and testing.
• Candidate must be a US Citizen per program requirements. Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance per customer requirements.
Preferred Qualifications for Software Engineering Manager 2:
• Master’s degree in computer science or computer engineering with 6+ years within a related engineering field.
• Control Account Manager (CAM) experience, preferably using an Earned Value Management System (EVMS).
• Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) experience.
• Strong software engineering experience to include Embedded Software, distributed APIs, FPGA, and Instruments Drivers.
• Software rapid prototyping experience to include designing and implementing solutions with minimal formal requirements.
• A strong ability to learn new technologies quickly and independently solve problems in a fast-paced environment.
• Full life cycle design, implementation, and feature/automated testing of software.
• Active U.S. government security clearance/ US Citizen.
Primary Level Salary Range: $147,700.00 - $221,500.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
