The overall function of this position is to act as a lead worker over crew(s), maintaining, repairing and troubleshooting electronic traffic signal equipment and systems along with providing guidance to lower level staff. This position is located in the District 05 / Unit 751 of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Electronic Technician Supervisor. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with or with minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals and directives.
The incumbent is required to possess the following specialized knowledge, skills, abilities, as well as to maintain the following licensing and operate the following equipment:
+ Knowledge of electronic and computerized traffic signal equipment and systems
+ CDL license required at time of appointment.
+ Drug testing required due to CDL licenses
+ Cell phone, computer, mobile data collector, video monitor, electrical testing devices. power tools, hand tools

Minimum Qualifications
Three years of experience or training in the maintenance or repair of mechanical or electronic office equipment, precision machinery, or electronic/electrical systems; OR
Three years of experience or training in the installation, repair, or maintenance of computer equipment or systems (hardware and/or software); OR
Possession of a CompTIA A+ Certification plus one of the following:
1. Two years of experience in the maintenance or repair of mechanical or electronic office equipment, precision machinery, or electronic/electrical systems; OR
2. Two years of experience in the installation, repair, or maintenance of computer equipment or systems (hardware and/or software).
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every six semester hours earned from an accredited college or university in electronics or computer science will substitute for one year of the required experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess an appropriate Federal Communications Commission (FCC) radio-telephone license when working with marine and aviation transmitting equipment or with radar.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
+ TRAFFIC SIGNALS
+ Lead and provide guidance to lower-level staff with performing the installation, repair and maintenance of electronic traffic signal systems, computerized traffic signal controllers and equipment, and video vehicle detection equipment.
+ Lead and provide guidance to lower-level staff with detailed preventive maintenance of traffic signal systems, and reviews preventive maintenance work and repairs performed on traffic signal systems.
+ Lead and provide guidance to lower leveled staff with repairing the traffic signal data communication systems for computerized traffic signal systems.
+ Inspects the installation and performance of new computerized traffic signal equipment and flashing beacons.
+ Performs more complex programming modifications and troubleshooting on computerized traffic signal controllers and equipment.
+ BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS
+ Leads and provide guidance to lower-level staff with performing the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment. This includes indoor and outdoor lighting, heating and air conditioning equipment, refrigeration equipment, emergency power plants and control panels, electrical and mechanical equipment at the truck weigh stations, rest areas and sewer plants, and controls, switches and motors at the South 2nd Street pumping station.
+ Lead and provide guidance to lower-level staff with performing the installation and maintenance of generators and power distribution systems.
+ Reads and interprets more complex items in electrical blueprints, electronic schematics, and mechanical layouts for diagnosis and repair of all electrical equipment.
+ FIXED AND MOVABLE BRIDGES
+ Lead and provide guidance to lower-level staff and performs the maintenance and repair of roadway lighting, marine navigational lighting and aircraft beacon lights on fixed and movable bridges, and reviews maintenance and repairs on fixed and movable bridges.
+ Lead and provide guidance to lower-level staff and performs the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment and systems on movable bridges.
+ Lead and provide guidance to lower-level staff and performs maintenance and repairs of motors, starters, switches, limit controls, relays and panel boxes on movable bridges.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Detail to Special Duty for permanent DOTD employees only
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday from 7:45AM to 4:15PM.
