    This is an open position with Ohio Edison Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [OE]

    Job Summary:

    The Garage Mechanic Leader is a skilled professional responsible for leading and performing complex maintenance, repair, and testing of automotive, hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical equipment. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, including supervising mechanics, coordinating inspections, managing fleet operations, and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.

    Responsibilities:

    + Assign, coordinate, and oversee work activities of mechanics and contractors across multiple locations.

    + Train and instruct lower classification employees in all aspects of vehicle service and repair.

    + Communicate regularly with Foreman or Supervisor regarding major repairs, fleet concerns, and operational updates.

    + Assist in budget preparation and provide information on equipment, materials, and suppliers.

    + Report problems, complaints, and successes through meetings and written reports.

    + Overhaul, repair, and adjust internal combustion engines and related components.

    + Inspect, test, and maintain brake systems, transmissions, differentials, hydraulic tools, and other mobile equipment.

    + Diagnose and repair obscure faults; tune motors and perform road tests.

    + Weld, braze, and cut metals; fabricate or modify equipment and supports.

    + Perform service work on electric, hydraulic, and pneumatic accessories.

    + Conduct annual inspections, load testing, and dielectric tests per OSHA, ANSI, and FirstEnergy standards.

    + Coordinate repairs with external garages and inspect completed work for quality and warranty compliance.

    + Maintain records for departmental vehicles and assign pool cars as needed.

    + Manage inventory of replacement parts, license plates, and registration cards.

    + Prepare repair estimates for accident-damaged vehicles and solicit bids for equipment disposal.

    + Maintain garage shop, tools, and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.

    + Prepare and maintain required reports and records.

    Qualifications:

    + Must meet the Company’s General Qualifications.

    + Minimum of five (5) years diversified experience in automotive maintenance and repair.

    + Educational background equivalent to a technical high school education.

    + Required hydraulic and ASE certifications.

    + Thorough practical knowledge of automotive systems, tools, and repair procedures.

    + Ability to read and interpret manufacturer manuals, drawings, and specifications.

    + Skilled in welding, metal fabrication, and use of special tools and equipment.

    + Strong diagnostic skills and attention to detail.

    + Capable of planning and scheduling work efficiently.

    + Must possess a valid State of Ohio Operator’s License

    + must have a valid Class A CDL with the ability to obtain a Tanker endorsement within 6 months.

    + Must pass motor vehicle operator tests prescribed by the Company.
