    The** **Department of Disability Resources for Students** **has an outstanding opportunity for an** **Assistant Director of Disability Resources for Students** **to join their team.

     

    The Assistant Director of Disability Resources for Students plays a critical role in promoting an inclusive and accessible campus environment by providing direct services to students with disabilities and to faculty implementing accommodations, overseeing accommodated testing operations, and providing broad department support and collaboration with campus partners. The Assistant Director will be responsible for various duties, including intake and onboarding for new students, access planning meetings, case management, faculty consultation, supervision, coverage, policy and program development, liaison and outreach, system administration.

     

    This position is responsible for compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. Knowledge of FERPA, ADA, Section 504, Title IX, and Higher Education Act is essential to this role.

     

    This position is part of a department with a federal mandate to determine, manage, and facilitate accommodations for students with documented disabilities. This involves interaction among complex systems in an increasingly technical field, as well as ensuring compliance with federal and state statutes. Responsibilities and expertise include analysis of medical documentation, determination of appropriate and reasonable accommodations, development of programs and resources to meet identified accommodation needs, counseling students regarding their academic progress and success, and advising and assisting faculty in the implementation of identified accommodations.

     

    This position will be responsible for working independently to coordinate and communicate with faculty across UW Bothell and a wide variety of students.

     

    This position will be the primary Bothell Access Coordinator for students needing accommodations, overseeing new student application intake and triage, completing access planning and orientation meetings, and providing ongoing case management. This position will work collaborativly with colleagues at UW Seattle and Tacoma to ensure consistent and compliant execution of work and service to students.

     

    This position will increase the capacity of the DRS department to provide services to students that are consistent, compliant, timely, and in alignment with federal and state laws. This position serves as a direct service provider to students as well as a consultant for administration, faculty, and staff. This position will review student requests for academic and housing accommodations, assess medical documentation, and determine appropriate implementation of accommodations.

     

    This position provides programming and education opportunities for the campus community allowing for further understanding of the challenges faced by students with disabilities. This position also creates a coordinated and collaborative effort with students, faculty, and staff to provide appropriate services and create a welcoming environment for students with disabilities.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    Student Support and Services:

    + Access Planning Meetings with Students: Under the direction of the Director of DRS, conduct meetings with students to assess their individual needs, develop accommodation plans, and ensure equal access to educational opportunities. Collaborate with students to determine reasonable and appropriate accommodations.

    + Intake (Application Processing and Triage): Process and review applications from students requesting disability accommodations. Collect and analyze relevant documentation to determine eligibility and appropriate accommodations. Identify and track emergent needs for expedited support.

    + Case Management/Advising: Provide ongoing case management and advising support to students with disabilities. Assist students in navigating academic challenges, connecting with support services, and monitoring their progress.

    + Student Orientations/Programming: Develop and deliver student orientations and programming to educate students about available disability resources, support services, and campus accessibility. Foster a sense of community among students with disabilities.

    + Test Coordination: Coordinate and administer accommodations for exams and assessments, ensuring proper implementation of approved accommodations and adherence to testing procedures.

    Department Support:

    + Supervision of Classified and Student Staff: Provide supervision and guidance to staff members involved in disability support services. Assign tasks, evaluate job performance, and provide professional development opportunities.

    + Student Supervision: Provide supervision and guidance to student employees involved in providing direct student assistance in classroom settings or proctoring exams for students with disabilities. Ensure adherence to established procedures and maintain the integrity of academic records and the testing process.

    + Faculty Consultation: Consult with faculty members to facilitate the implementation of accommodations, ensure accessibility of instructional materials, and promote inclusive teaching practices. Provide training and resources to support faculty in meeting the needs of students with disabilities.

    + Coverage: Provide coverage and support in the absence of other team members or during peak periods. Ensure continuity of services and support for students with disabilities. This may include evening and weekend hours.

    + Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal and state laws related to higher education and DRS including FERPA, ADA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, Title IX, etc.

    + Website/Training Resources: Develop and maintain website content related to disability resources and services. Create and update training resources and materials to educate students, faculty, and staff on accessibility and inclusive practices.

    + Policy Development and Content: Assist in the development and review of policies and procedures related to disability resources and services. Remain current on research, legal activity, and best practices in the field to guide policy and procedure and recommend improvements.

    + Assessment and Reporting: Assist in development and implementation of assessment tools for the department to evaluate quality and effectiveness of service provision. Collect, analyze, and report data related to disability services, accommodations, and student outcomes. Generate reports to inform decision-making, assess program effectiveness, and support institutional compliance.

    + AIM Management: Serve as secondary Bothell administrator for the Accessible Information Management (AIM) system, ensuring accurate record-keeping, data entry, timely communication with stakeholders, and ensuring efficient use of the system to facilitate accommodation processes.

    + Budget/Purchasing: Assist in processing purchasing requests and monitoring expenses to optimize resources.

    Outreach:

    + Liaison/Outreach: Serve as a liaison with campus departments, student organizations, and external entities to promote disability resources and support services. Engage in outreach activities to raise awareness and foster collaboration. Participate in tri-campus DRS meetings, workgroups, and taskforces. Serve on UWB and EMSA committees as needed to represent the DRS office.

    + Campus Events and Activities: Participate in campus wide events including Orientation, Student Housing Move In, SpringFest, Admitted Students Day, Commencement and others as needed. Some evening and weekends will be required.

    + Professional Development: Stay abreast of current trends and emerging topics in the field of higher education and disability resources for students. Attend professional development activities and integrate into the daily work.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    + Bachelor's degree in education, Counseling, Psychology or other related degree

    + At least three years of experience of experience working with students with disabilities in a higher education setting providing advising, counseling, or other student support service.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    + Experience and sensitivity in working with diverse populations.

    + Experience working with systems and databases including computer proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and other Microsoft and Google products.

    DESIRED SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:

    + Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

    + Experience reviewing and evaluating medical documentation.

    + Experience communicating and coordinating with faculty.

    + Experience creating and conducting presentations and workshops to large and small audiences.

    + Knowledge of UW systems including AIM, SDB, EAB Navigate, Workday.

    + Knowledge of accessible content creation and website management (Word Press preferred).

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    + Office environment where sitting for long periods of time is typical.

    + Expected work week is 40 hours and occasional evening and weekend hours to cover scheduled events or testing operations.

    + After an initial on site work period, this position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule that is not to exceed two days remote per week.

    + All hands events, such as move in, commencement, and other activities will occur on weekends. It is expected that remote days will be flexed to come into the office as needed or requested by supervisor or division leadership.

     

    Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

    Pay Range Minimum:

    $64,356.00 annual

    Pay Range Maximum:

    $73,140.00 annual
