Summary The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in the Office of Planning, Design and Construction (OPDC). The OPDC is responsible for the Smithsonian's physical infrastructure, which comprises over 700 buildings, other structures and leased spaces many which are designated as historic and all of which are visited by millions of people each year. Responsibilities The Senior Construction Control Representative will serve as a senior construction representative in the Construction Division providing the Associate Director with a wide range of expertise in architectural, construction, and engineering matters. In this position, you will: Conduct studies on architectural/engineering design methods to determine economic and technical feasibility requirements. Coordination of on-site inspections during construction and determining that all foundations are installed in compliance with contract plans and specification. Compile information necessary to formulate reports, presentations, or documentation for construction engineering assignments. Resolve unusual situations including structural, mechanical, electrical, civil and architectural. Direct a team of representatives assigned to a project from inception through completion. Qualifications Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal Service. For this position specialized experience is defined as inspecting and evaluating building systems/components for compliance with plans and specifications; selecting methods and procedures to evaluate building systems/components; providing technical expertise in construction, architectural, and engineering disciplines; coordinating of on-site inspections during construction; and monitoring construction contract costs to ensure that projects remain within budget. Time-in-Grade Requirements: Under competitive merit promotion procedures, any individual who is currently holding, or who has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under a non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet "time-in-grade" requirements (have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade of the grade for which you are applying).
