    Burns & McDonnell's office in Phoenix, AZ, is actively seeking a Staff Environmental Planner to support projects for environmental surveys, NEPA analysis, and permitting services.

     

    This position provides the opportunity to challenge and grow yourself professionally within one of the industry’s leading firms. Be on a team that solves our client’s issues and problems for environmental and engineering practices in the planning, permitting, design, and remediation service space.

     

    The candidate should have an established and successful history executing tasks for both small and large-scale projects including but not limited to assisting with developing proposals and cost estimates, executing project tasks, and assisting with developing strategic plans. The Planner will support and manage the execution of environmental projects, be a subject matter expert, and be a technical lead/author on Environmental Planning. Areas to be covered include NEPA, resource impact assessment, and permitting. This includes managing permitting applications and analyzing environmental data supporting the development of environmental documents and studies for NEPA compliance for various types of projects, including high-voltage transmission line routing, renewables, power generation construction activities and upstream and midstream Oil and Gas.

    The Environmental Planner will work within our Environmental Services (ENS) Global Practice to perform the following duties:

    + Project management, team leadership, management & mentoring of junior staff.

    + Preparing studies, evaluations, NEPA, and state documentation for all types and sizes of environmental projects.

    + Ability to work independently and demonstrate a high level of competence in the area of technical report writing related to NEPA compliance as well as other types of technical reports and regulatory (Federal, State, local) permitting documents.

    + Experience with environmental compliance, permitting, and agency consultations.

    + Working with clients, resource agencies, environmental and technical staff to prepare environmental documents and related technical studies.

    + Develop, cultivate, and strengthen relationships with clients.

    + Assist with developing business for the Environmental Services Global Practice.

    + Other duties as assigned.

    Qualified candidates will have experience in the following areas and with the following agencies:

    + National Environmental Policy Act

    + State and Local Environmental Permitting

    + U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and CWA Section 404 permitting

    + U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and ESA compliance

    + U.S.F.S special use permitting and forest management plans

    + BLM right-of-way grants and resource management plans

    + BOR use authorizations

    Qualifications

    + B.S. or M.S. in Environmental Science, Planning or Natural and/or Cultural Resources Management or related field from an accredited university.

    + Minimum 4 years related consulting experience in a wide variety of areas ranging from leading and managing technical teams, project management and business development, and must also be able to effectively balance their direct and indirect utilization rates.

    + Specific experience in electric transmission, oil & gas, renewables, and other similar markets is preferred.

    + Experience with the resources and regulatory agencies in the western U.S is a requirement.

    + Local and regional knowledge and relationships with existing clients is preferred.

    + Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are required to develop and maintain relationships.

    + Solid time management and follow-through skills, with the ability to simultaneously work on and manage multiple tasks/projects with tight deadlines.

    + Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

    + Proficient with GIS and excellent writing skills.

    + Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office suite.

    + Strong experience working with both private and public-sector clients.
