    Detail-oriented registered nurse responsible for reviewing electronic medical records to extract, validate, and submit clinical data to national vascular and cardiology outcome registries. This role ensures accuracy and completeness of data while supporting quality improvement initiatives and performance metric monitoring within the cardiovascular program.

     

    + Prior experience with VQI or other national cardiovascular registries.

    + Previous experience in data abstraction, quality programs, or clinical outcomes reporting.

    + Background in cardiovascular, vascular, or operating room nursing.

    Role Purpose

     

    The Senior Data Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Supervisor with the oversight of the abstraction processes and staff. This position maintains working knowledge of regulatory abstraction guidelines, internal policies, procedures and services (both departmental and operational.) This position also assists with monitoring productivity and quality standards of designated staff to meet regulatory timelines.

    Responsibilities

    + Supports the supervisor, management team and hospital performance improvement staff with various projects and assignments to assist in meeting BJC goals.

    + Trains new abstraction staff on medical record review and data abstraction; provides ongoing education and training to current abstraction staff on new or revised abstraction guidelines; responsible for monitoring abstraction processes and escalates any concerns to management team.

    + Serves as the subject matter expert for abstraction processes, including but not limited to guidelines, timelines, inclusion criteria, exclusion criteria, applicable population, sampling criteria, validation, and submission timelines; stays current on abstraction guidelines published by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, The Joint Commission, and American Heart Association Get with the Guidelines for Stroke; audits coworkers’ abstraction, identifies continuous learning needs, and assists management in implementation of action plans to address ongoing education and learning needs regarding abstraction guidelines.

    + Reviews medical records and various databases to collect required data for assessing specific aspects of care using standardizing guidelines, definitions, and tools.

    + Performs ongoing inter-rater reliability audits to ensure reliability of data, quality and validation checks on automated portion of data collection and participates in the planning and execution of strategies to evaluate alternative, computer-based performance assessments.
