The University of Miami Human Resources Department has an excellent opportunity for a Director of Human Resources to oversee the day-to-day operations of the HR Client Services function within the Athletics Department at the Coral Gables campus in Miami, Florida.
This Director of Human Resources is also responsible for the delivery of client-based services, administration, coordination and evaluation of HR programs at the University of Miami. In addition, this role provides consultation to management on strategic staffing plans, compensation, benefits, training and development and ensures adherence with all employment legislation and regulations.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
+ Oversees the effective utilization of the University of Miami employee workforce, while supporting system-wide employee workforce planning, strategies and initiatives. Assists clients with the evaluation of their business plans and the impact of existing and new discipline-specific programs/strategies and/or regulatory actions and direct formulation of the department objectives.
+ Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and governmental requirements. Maintains knowledge of industry trends, state/federal employment legislation, as well as day-to-day management of employees, and reducing legal risks.
+ Establishes and maintains positive, productive and collaborative relationships with internal and external partners to support an engaged and inclusive culture that advances the University of Miami’s mission, vision, strategic objectives and business goals.
+ Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues and conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations. Exercises due diligence in the review and research of evidence/documents in order to analyze the overall facts of the case and ensure HR staff recommendations for action are appropriate. Counsels and advises employees and managers on employee relations practices.
+ Initiates, develops and executes Work Environment Assessments. Conducts recurring meetings and site visits with respective business units and general employee population to gauge work environment.
+ Provides day-to-day guidance to direct staff or clients regarding the coaching, counseling, career development and disciplinary actions for staff.
+ Reviews and makes recommendations to executive management for improvement of policies, procedures, and practices related to personnel matters. Manages communication of changes in policies and procedures and ensures adherence. Fosters an engaged employee environment through consistency and uniformity in application and interpretation of governing policies, practices and all terms and conditions of employment.
+ Develops reporting procedures and other methods to establish accountability and measure success. Monitors client metrics (i.e. vacancy, turnover rates, etc.) regularly.
+ Assists with the revision of processes and procedures to reflect progressive approaches to human resources management and to improve HR effectiveness.
+ Identifies training needs for business units and individual executive coaching needs. Facilitates training, including orientation, as needed. Participates in the evaluation and monitoring of training in order to determine the success of training programs and that training objectives are met.
+ Completes special projects or assignments as required, to include serving on committees and participation in HR related meetings and events.
+ Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or related field
Certification and Licensing:
SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP or PHR/SPHR certification strongly preferred
Experience:
Minimum 7 years of relevant experience

Department Specific Functions
+ As a direct report to Human Resources, this position serves as the primary liaison between University of Miami Athletics and the HR Department; oversees all HR-related functions within Athletics, providing strategic direction and ensuring alignment with Athletics organizational goals.
+ Functions as a member of the Miami Athletics leadership team representing the talent/people agenda.
+ Combines deep functional expertise in human resources and talent strategies with in-depth knowledge of business operations to inform solutions and plans.
+ Coaches and advises leaders and staff on all employee relations matters, ensuring effective management of employee concerns, conflict resolution, and performance related issues.
+ Builds strong relationships with stakeholders to understand and address business needs across Athletics.
+ Leads HR initiatives that support continuous improvement in organizational performance and adaptability; responsible for defining HR initiatives by having an excellent understanding of the organization’s objectives, issues, needs, and key success factors; makes recommendations for changes/improvements and staff development matters.
+ Provides counsel on HR aspects of structure changes from design to implementation.
+ Participates in talent acquisition and onboarding, ensuring compliance with policies and practices of the organization.
+ Leads Athletics through organization-wide HR programs (e.g., Compensation Planning, Performance Management, Goal setting, Engagement Survey Results/Action Planning).
+ Ensures all internal approvals are obtained for HR transactions. Tracks key components of contracts to ensure timely management of payments and transitions.
+ Works closely with Athletics leadership, Human Resources leadership, and General Counsel on items pertaining to contract terms.
+ Adheres to all state, University, NCAA, and department rules and policies pertaining to HR.
+ Champions compliance within the department; triages complaints and concerns related to Title IX and/or NCAA to the appropriate offices. Facilitates training and professional development programs and sessions.
