Job Title: SMT Operator
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled SMT Operator to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining SMD/THT machines, performing rework, and handling other assigned duties to ensure quality production processes.
Responsibilities
+ Load feeders, read part numbers, and operate SMD/THT machines, including jet-printing machines and reflow ovens.
+ Troubleshoot basic problems on machines and adjust thermal profiles to improve solder quality.
+ Perform setup, parts verification, and operate SMT equipment with a basic understanding of IPC-610 standards.
+ Manage automated Surface Mount Technology (SMT) assembly equipment, including jet printing, pick and place, reflow oven, and automated optical inspection (AOI).
+ Monitor and replenish electronic components onto feeders across multiple machines.
+ Collaborate with the Process Engineer to provide real-time data for process improvement and issue resolution.
+ Conduct in-process visual inspections and initiate first article processes for electronic assemblies.
+ Participate in setup, maintenance, and operation of production equipment to meet quality, efficiency, and productivity goals.
Essential Skills
+ High School diploma or GED required; Electronics technical school graduate preferred.
+ 3+ years of hands-on experience with SMT assembly techniques, equipment, and processes preferred.
+ Basic understanding of computer science fundamentals.
+ Knowledge of electronics components, including polarity, part marking, package size, and PCB footprints.
+ Ability to interpret and apply IPC-A-610 acceptability standards.
+ Proficiency in reading and interpreting work instructions and verbal instructions.
+ Strong written and oral communication skills.
+ Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

+ Mechanical assembly skills and aptitude.
+ Experience with hand and power tools.
+ Experience in a production environment.
+ Ability to work collaboratively with manufacturing engineering and quality teams.

Work Environment
You will work a 7:15 AM to 3:45 PM shift, Monday through Friday, in a clean production environment within a brand new facility. Initially, the position is for the 1st shift, but there may be a transition to a 2nd shift in the future.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chesapeake, Virginia.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
