Job Title: Senior Software Engineer – RADAR Systems Development

Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Software Engineer to support the enhancement and sustainment of a sophisticated RADAR system. This role involves full lifecycle software development—from initial design through implementation, integration, and testing, including potential on-site support. As a key member of the engineering team, you will collaborate closely with software and systems engineers to deliver mission-critical capabilities. Under the guidance of the Lead Software Engineer, you will estimate task efforts, contribute to GUI development, and ensure the software meets rigorous performance and reliability standards. This is a unique opportunity to work on advanced technologies for the U.S. Navy, including complex software algorithms and cutting-edge digital signal processing hardware. You’ll also have the chance to influence strategic initiatives such as proposal development, IRAD efforts, and future system enhancements.

Responsibilities

+ Design, develop, and test software features for RADAR systems.

+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the development lifecycle.

+ Contribute to GUI development, maintenance, and testing.

+ Provide accurate task estimates and status updates.

+ Participate in integration and test events, including occasional travel to customer sites.

+ Support strategic initiatives including proposals and R&D activities.

Essential Skills

+ Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering or a related discipline.

+ Minimum of 5 years of experience in C++ software development and testing.

+ Proficiency in Linux-based development environments.

+ Experience with publish-subscribe middleware (e.g., DDS, ZeroMQ, ROS, AMQP, CORBA).

+ Familiarity with code quality tools (e.g., memory leak detection, code coverage).

+ Version control experience using Git.

+ Comfort with text/code editors (e.g., VI/VIM, Emacs, nano, Kate).

+ Understanding of UML or similar design modeling techniques.

+ Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.

+ Willingness to travel up to 10%.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Experience with automated testing frameworks.

+ Background in technical effort estimation.

+ Familiarity with Qt or Gallium GUI development.

+ Working knowledge of XML and XSD.

+ Exposure to containerized environments (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

Work Environment

This is a hybrid position with the office being in Chantilly, VA. The team size for the software engineers is about 10-12 people. They work a 9/80 schedule, so every other Friday they have off.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Chantilly, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $130000.00 - $150000.00/yr.
