Clinical Laboratory Microbiologist
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled microbiologist to lead and execute scientific research projects. The ideal candidate will design and conduct experiments independently or collaboratively, ensuring adherence to scientific protocols. This role involves accurate and efficient laboratory techniques, data collection, and analysis, and requires leading small projects while overseeing staff assignments.
Responsibilities
+ Design and execute experiments independently or in collaboration with project teams, ensuring adherence to scientific protocols.
+ Perform laboratory techniques accurately, including sample preparation, data collection, and analysis.
+ Direct small projects or programs, overseeing assignments of other staff members.
+ Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot complex equipment or instrumentation.
+ Lead and manage scientific research projects from conception to completion.
+ Provide scientific guidance and direction to project teams, fostering collaboration and innovation.
+ Analyze experimental data using statistical software and interpret results.
+ Prepare technical reports, presentations, and scientific publications.
+ Evaluate data for accuracy and completeness, performing peer reviews.
+ Develop and improve methods, test plans, and experimental designs.
+ Coordinate cross-functional project teams, managing timelines and resources.
+ Maintain accurate and detailed records of experimental procedures and results.
+ Communicate research findings and project progress to senior scientists and project leaders.
+ Participate in quality assurance activities and adhere to quality control measures.
+ Identify opportunities for process improvement and innovation in research methodologies.
Essential Skills
+ Degree in Microbiology or related life-science (Master's with 3+ years or Bachelor's with 4+ years of clinical microbiology experience).
+ Strong technical leadership and mastery in protocol troubleshooting and optimization.
+ Experience in original or collaborative research leading to publication.
+ Ability to serve in task leadership within larger projects or as Principal Investigator on smaller projects.
+ Proven track record of communicating project resource needs.
+ Experience in microbiology laboratory techniques, plating, culture, mass spectrometry, and MALDI-TOF.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) credentials preferred, not required.
+ Contributions to scientific research evidenced by authorship of peer-reviewed articles, patents, and recognition of accomplishments.
Work Environment
The position offers an opportunity to make a significant impact as the solo microbiologist on the team. The candidate will report to senior leadership and be a key person for all microbiology-related tasks. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
