Job Title: Senior Chemist
Job Description
The Senior Chemist is responsible for contributing to the development and support of products and technologies within the R&D group. This role involves the structural elucidation of unknown compounds for the characterization of plastic packaging systems and medical devices. The candidate will be a subject matter expert in structural elucidation through mass spectrometry and the utilization of instruments such as LC-MS, GC-MS, and ICP-MS.
Responsibilities
+ Design and execute experiments using various analytical instruments such as LC-MS, GC-MS, and ICP-MS with minimal supervision.
+ Utilize expertise for structural elucidation of unknown chemical compounds.
+ Facilitate and contribute to Operational Excellence in the Chemistry Department.
+ Author scientific documents, including protocols, reports, and analytical methods.
+ Effectively communicate and present findings to a wide-ranging audience.
+ Collaborate with different departments to establish requirements and timelines for project deliverables.
+ Guide Chemists in the execution of experiments using LC-MS, GC-MS, and ICP-MS instrumentation.
+ Perform Method Development and Method Validation activities.
+ Adapt to changes with an agile mindset.
+ Demonstrate quality and detail-oriented work.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry with at least 10+ years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 8+ years, or Doctorate with 5+ years of relevant experience.
+ Hands-on experience with instrumental analysis including LC-MS, GC-MS, and ICP-MS.
+ Knowledgeable in the structural elucidation of unknown chemical compounds through mass spectrometry.
+ Method Development and Method Validation as per FDA and ICH guidelines.
+ Good understanding of GxP practices.
+ Ability to learn quickly and solve problems using critical thinking and analytical chemistry skills.
+ Teamwork ability and an inclusive attitude.
+ Strong time management and project management skills.
+ Ability to mentor scientists.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Subject matter expert in the mass spectrometry field with a focus on structural elucidation of unknown chemical compounds.
+ Knowledge in the Extractables and Leachables field for medical devices is a plus.
Work Environment
This role is based in a 72,000 square foot full capability laboratory that includes DV&V, R&D, QC (micro and chem), QA, in-process testing, calibrations, and metrology all onsite. The lab is the main facility for the company and tests both Pharma and Med Device products. The position involves working in both Research and Leachables Labs, supporting new products in the pipeline. The environment fosters cohesive teamwork among 5 Experienced Chemists and other team members.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mundelein, Illinois.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $48.00 - $60.00/hr.
