    We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Cell and Molecular Assay Scientist to join the mRNA Platform team at Lilly to support preclinical development efforts focused on mRNA therapeutics. The successful candidate will have a proven track record with mRNA work, primary cell isolation and culture, and cell-based assays like flow cytometry. They will also have a strong interest in the broader applications of mRNA technology across diverse therapeutic areas and thrive in a fast paced, collaborative and cross-functional research environment. Exceptional technical problem-solving skills as well as flexibility and a proven ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies are essential.

    Job Description:

    + Design, execute, and troubleshoot molecular biology experiments, including but not limited to flow cytometry assays, luminescence assays, fluorescent imaging, western blot and ELISA.

    + Purify primary immune cells from blood samples.

    + Maintain primary and immortalized cell culture and perform high throughput cell-based assays using sterile techniques.

    + Assist in the development of automated assays by operating liquid handlers, evaluating the workflows and suggesting improvements

    + Manage lab supplies and instruments, establish and update SOPs, and maintain rigorous standards for laboratory safety, regulatory compliance, and data integrity.

    + Analyze, communicate and present experimental findings to internal teams and Lilly stakeholders.

    + Contribute to cross-functional collaboration within Lilly Gene Therapy and broader Lilly Research Laboratories, ensuring project milestones are met while maintaining adaptability to evolving research priorities.

    Basic Requirements:

    + Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or a related scientific field with 4+ years of relevant laboratory experience, or a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or a related scientific field with 2+ years of relevant industry experience.

    Additional preferences:

    + Extensive hands-on experience with isolating, maintaining and plating primary cells and cell lines.

    + Familiarity with industry practices and standards in conducting multiple types of cell-based and biochemical assays, such as multi-color flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, western blot, and enzymatic reactions.

    + Experience with running cell-based assays (e.g., transfection, harvest, analysis) in 96/384 well formats and user-level experience with automated liquid handlers, or a strong willingness to learn.

    + Extensive experience in handling and transfecting mRNA, additional experience with small scale mRNA production and purification is preferred.

    Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is

     

    $71,250 - $187,000

     

    Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
