    Position Title:

    Events Asstistant Hourly

    Job Description:

    The incumbent serves as a primary program support for both the events and volunteer coordination within the Public Lands Department. This role involves planning, organizing, implementing, staffing, and evaluating selected City events and volunteer programs. This position works closely with various public and private agencies to coordinate events and promote stewardship of SLC’s Public Lands, serving as back up to other support personnel within the Public Lands office.

    TYPICAL DUTIES:

    + Coordinates with Public Lands staff in the Parks Division, Trails and Natural Lands Division, Urban Forestry and Park Ranger Program to assist in planning and directing volunteer stewardship events.

    + Serves as volunteer and partner liaison for assigned events; must keep extremely organized records of volunteer participation, partner communication, and event logistics.

    + Coordinates with Public Lands staff in the Parks Division, Trails and Natural Lands Division, Urban Forestry and Park Ranger Program to assist in planning and directing volunteer stewardship events.

    + Communicates with service providers and internal staff to ensure tools, supplies, safety equipment, signage, and other event needs are prepared and in place.

    + Assists in developing outreach and marketing strategies, including social media, for promotion of volunteer events and programs. Delivers promotional materials as needed.

    + Works closely with field crews, staff leads, and community partners to ensure cooperation and communication for day-to-day event operations.

    + Assists in collecting, tracking, and reporting volunteer data, event outcomes, and program performance goals.

    + Facilitates indoor/outdoor activities for a broad spectrum of participants and group sizes.

    + Assists in developing and establishing program goals and objectives, evaluating program effectiveness, and measuring/reporting on program success.

    + Conducts outreach, recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers to meet Public Lands goals.

    + Coordinates promotion of activities and recruitment of participants for volunteer efforts and department-wide ventures.

    + Serves as backup to other personnel within the community engagement office and assists other professional staff as needed, including representing the department at community outreach events.

    + Performs other related duties as required.

     

    ​

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    + High school diploma and six (6) months experience in event planning.

    + Working knowledge of all Microsoft and Adobe computer software.

    + Ability to develop and monitor measurable program performance goals, statistically analyze data and report results.

    + Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

    + Ability to organize and to prioritize numerous tasks, meet deadlines, analyze problems and recommend effective event planning options and solutions.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    + Prior marketing (including social media), public relations, group facilitation/event planning experience.

    + Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    + Light physical effort. Moderately comfortable working conditions, handling lightweights, sitting for prolongs periods of time, intermittent standing.

    + Intermittent exposure to stressful situations because of human behavior.

    + Occasionally required to work weekends and evening hours. Working hours varies depending on business needs.
