    Scheduled hours: Monday - Friday, 8 hour days

    Job Description:

    A Brief OverviewResponsible for accurate and timely assignment of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCs codes as appropriate to assure compliance with all state and federal rules/regulations and ethical standards of coding as established by AHIMA. Understands and assists with functions within the Health Information Department in compliance with all applicable state and federal laws/regulations, accreditation agency standards, and GRH polices and procedures.What you will do

    + Assign/Review diagnosis and procedure codes in the patient’s medical record utilizing ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT and HCPCs codes as appropriate for the patient encounter and regulatory guidelines following coding and/or regulatory guidelines

    + Assign the payment classification (DRG, APC) as appropriate to patient encounter utilizing coding software

    + Consult classification manuals to locate information regarding disease processes

    + Protect the security and confidentiality of patient information

    + Resolve or clarify codes and diagnoses with conflicting, missing, or unclear documentation by consulting with clinical documentation specialists, other coding specialists, or providers.

    + Participate in Coding and Department meetings

    + Identify, compile, abstract and code patient data, using standard processes/systems

    + Identify documentation/coding opportunities for providers and communicate to HIM leadership, compliance specialist and/or providers as appropriate, especially issues that could result in inappropriate reimbursement or regulatory non-compliance

    + During coding, review the medical record for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulations. Communicate issues to appropriate HIM team member/leadership.

    Qualifications:

    Qualifications

    + H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required

    + One Year Certificate from College or Tech School Medical Coding and Insurance training Preferred

    + 1-3 years Computer experience Required

    + 1-3 years coding experience Preferred

    + 1-3 years 3M encoder experience Preferred

    + Knowledge of job specific clerical procedures and systems such as managing files and records and general office procedures and terminology.

    + Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

    + Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

    + Knowledge to use electronic equipment and computer applications specific to the job.

    + Knowledge of laws, government regulations, and coding guidelines specific to the job.

    + Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

    + Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.

    + Talking to others to convey information effectively.

    + Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

    + Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.

    + Managing one's own time and the time of others.

    + The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).

    + The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

    + The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.

    + The ability to identify and understand the speech of another person.

    + The ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations).

    + The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.

    + Certified Coding Specialist American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) (United States of America) within 1 Year Required or

    + Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) (United States of America) within 1 Year Required or

    + Certified Coding Specialist American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) (United States of America) within 1 Year Required
