Manages the administrative, fiscal, technical and human resources activities associated with the 24 hour operation of the core histopathology laboratory and related laboratory services. The laboratory manager functions as the liaison between the anatomical laboratory, hospital campuses, SLPG pathologist group and lab outreach services.

Supervises the staff at the site. Manages the selection / training / orientation/ continuing education laboratory staff; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions. Collaborates with other network lab managers/supervisors to ensures all policies and procedures at the site are in accordance with network and lab accrediting/licensing agencies' standards. Coordinates with other network lab managers/supervisors to initiate and design method and instrument evaluations. Supervises the maintenance of instrumentation and ensures that resources are available

for troubleshooting technical and instrument operations. Prepares the daily work schedule to ensure adequate staffing. With Laboratory Quality Manager, designs and implements a Quality/Safety Management process/program to document performance and resolve system problems and complaints. Prepares the site's annual budget for the capital equipment, staffing and other expenses. Monitors budget vs. actual report monthly. Explains any variances. Maintains cost effective inventory. Performs laboratory tests according to established protocols as scheduled. Maintains

meeting s w ith s ite medical director, laboratory admini s trator and entity leadership . Serves on various hospital/laboratory committees. Delegates responsibilities a nd dutie s to employee s at the site s o the sit e runs s moothly in

manager’s ab s ence . A ss ists LIS analysts in r es olving computer problems; maintains computer operation s

a t the site. Coordinates teaching students, public relations tours of the laboratory.

Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/ Entity as well as the proper release of information.

Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.

Demonstrates/models the Network’s Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external).

Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety.

Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices.

Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.

Demonstrates competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated.
